A good buddy of mine just got a 99 Audi A4 V4 turbo, and claims he can beat my stock 95 mustang gt...seriously doubt that, but anyways I was wondering what kind of HP his car puts out, what kind of quarter miles will this car pull, and what are the 0-60 times? I figured you guys might know, thanks in advance

BTW, there is no such thing as a V4 Turbo....it is an inline 20V 4 cylinder turbo. <p>Stock: 150 bhp (0-60 about 8 seconds)<br>Modified: 180 bhp - 245 bhp (0-60 in about 6.3 to 7.4 seconds)<p>I use to own a Mustang GT 5.0 5 speed, so I would think you would win in<br>a 0-60 run on a stock car...but if it was modified? You might lose...You will<br>definitely lose if it is a modified quattro car and you are trying this 0-60 run<br>on wet pavement. Not many people have taken their A4s to the drag strip...but I<br>would imagine a range from the mid 16s to the low 15s @ about 92-95 mph <br>(just guessing).<p>There are A4s that have as much at 450 bhp. Ivor at TAP has a new engine<br>that he just got from Audi with that much horsepower.<p>Steve S.<br>97 2.8QM<p>P.S. This car is not made for 0-60 runs...it is made for long stretches<br>of mountainous roads...or the Autobahn in Germany.

HIs is stock....he just got it about a month ago...but thanx for the info. youre right about the purpose for the A4. I'd much rather be in an A4 than a mustang on a roadtrip. It is a very nice car, and is much classier than a mustang, but nothing beats pure american horsepower. Happy New Year to all.

A steeda Q mustang or saleen SR would rip the audi in that pic...depending on options, around 425 horses for both.<br>chris <br>P.S. the steeda Q is under $40k too<br>dont worry im not trying to flame you guys, just protecting my baby. I think all these car Forums are great...and I do love the A4

I also own a 1999 A4 and would be pretty comfortable in racing a GT. We've got the advantage of AWD, where as you have to keep the ass end on the ground. Our 60 ft. times are better than the GT's. I would say that an A4, with good driver, could take a GT in the quarter. Now, from a rolling start, that's another story. I've raced my share of GT's with both my Syclone and VR6 and have never had a problem. Cobra's on the other hand can be a problem(sometimes). Does your GT have stock gears, 308's I believe?

You have to keep the AWD in mind. A mustang with 400 plus horsepower can not keep its tires on the ground without the help of slicks. My GMC Syclone (pretty much stock) has only 285 horsepower and 360 ft lbs of torque and it runs the quarter in 13.5, o-60 in 4.9 seconds. This vehicle can only achieve these specs due to the AWD, without it it's a lot like a Mustang - tire smoke and all. I challenge any Mustang, including Saleens, against a Syclone - forget it when their modified.

How about a 1984 Honda Spree moped too!!! A lingenfelter vette is not a stock production vehicle. How about a Stokes Syclone or Typhoon? Only comparing apples to apples... I'd bet on the Stokes over the Lingenfelter any day of the week.

I have stock gearing, but have bumped the timing to 14*. I also have a K&N filterchager cone and removed air silencer. also has pulleys...im probably makin about 225-235 hp. Youre right in the twisties he'd definately gain some ground, but he doesnt have quattro.

you could get 3 steeda Q's for what a lingenfelter vette would cost. I was just providing a mustang in the same estimated price range as the audi in the picture...actually i would alomst guarantee that the steeda Q is cheaper considering that a new loaded A4 quattro is like $32k.

Try this on for size: I race a Mustang 5.0L, I build high-performance Corvettes for a living (the Mallett 435, perhaps you've heard of it?), and just bought my wife an Audi A4 1.8T QMS Avant in yellow. With the weather here in Cleveland being what it is, I know what I'm driving. Wanna race?

I take you in a '93 Beretta GTZ w/a lotus cam, chip, intake, and exhaust... @240 hp out of a four banger... you will lose... I've done it...<p>These just something about a Mustang. They make people think there fast, well they sound like it, but it's not. There's no technology, good power, but no balance, no sport...

I'll tell you, it sounded really cool when I jammed the accelerator to the floor yesturday and heard those 320 hp rev to 6500 rpm. All natural. Let me add all those woosy turbos and superchargers and chips and crap you all put in and maybe I'll embarrass you even more. Normal A4 1.8- your choice- Quattro or FWD will get killed by the similarly priced killer with the hand built engine from Detroit.

That's Syclone, with an S -otherwise you sadly mistake it for a Cyclone (C) from Ford. Insurance on my syclone is 10% less than on the '99 A4

There are 2 corners for every straightaway.<p>I have BOTH a:<br>93' Mustang Cobra 5.0 that made 494 horses TO THE REAR WHEELS on BBKs dyno, with full Griggs suspention, Baer Racing brakes, 14psi Novi 2000 blower, heads whatever, you get the picture. It will walk away from a new Cobra like the new car is bolted to the pavement.<p>and a:<br>98 A4 30v Avant chipped, with full sespension, Recaro SRs, 18 inch stickys, and a full exhuast. <p>I took the A4 to the strip one day (there's a pic of my launch in the forum) it wasn't that fun...15.30@90.89mph. The Mustang goes 12.10@121 on 17" radials. But to drive, drive daily, drive on a twisty canyon, drive in foul weather, drive around pretentious people who care, drive 100mph+ for a long period of time, drive for a long period of time period, there's NO comparison. A4 hands down. Own one and you'll know why, or better yet drive a Muscle Car for 10 years like I have then own one.<p>Now back to you VS. your bud.<p>Drag race:<br>I would suspect your Cobra would, based on HP and weight, do about 100-102mph in the 1/4 mile. ET, depending on traction, which can be very tricky in a mustang, would be between 13.50-14.80. It would be very difficult for your friend to build a 1.8t that would go 102, he'd be looking at stage 2-3 chipping and probably a turbo upgrade. If he's got a quatro and you get to heavy with the trigger he'd probably beat you to the 1/8 mile point at which time you'd blow by. You win all day. Congrats.<p>Road Race:<br>Both cars bone stock. 1.8t QMS, vs. Cobra. Cobra wins the first lap, maybe two. A4 wins every lap after the second. Too much weight, no brakes, no handles. In the rain the A4 wins the first lap and laps the Cobra in 10. One night I got into it late night on Sunset blvd with a brand new Camero SS. This guy wanted to spend the evening talking with me when after 5 hard turnes I had caught, passed and picked up a 6 car-length lead on him. A4s are no joke. Smooth as butter, aheasion like velcro and they're suprisingly quick once they get going.<p><br>Note:<br>My girlfriend and all her lovely friends really prefer the built A4 to the Mustang, they all say the A4 is "like butter". I keep telling them that there's nothing like the smell of high octane gas and burning rubber, or the sound of 8 cylinders spilling through full length header and flowmaster mufflers and rumbling off the walls of the Malibu canyons late at night. They prefer the smell of leather and the sound of 2000 watts of high fidelity. %^ )<p>I love both cars. I'm just glad I don't have to drive the Cobra everyday.....Anymore.<p>Damon<br>98.5 Avant QMS, AMS chip, K&N, cat back, H&Rs, Bilsteins, 18x8.5 A! Just Kidding. Your posts about that race a while back were one of the funniest things I've ever read on this forum. Any idea what that guy did to the bug to get it to run high 14's or whatever it was?<p>Great post, BTW. That's a solid testimonial from a guy who apparently knows how to drive on the dragstrip AND in the twisties.<p>Rich D.<br>'98.0 A4 2.8 QM H&R/Koni, K&N, Stebro catback

It's funny how people who have mustangs always think they have the fastest cars. I have a 98 30v quattro and I have raced many mustangs. Let's get this out in the open I don't hate mustangs ( I owned one 95 5.0 ) but they all think their the fastest and they also have a bad attitude. When I was racing in my mustang I was cool when loosing. Now that I have my audi and raced what I used to drive I feel so confident in the audi. It's true mustangs have old technology and you can get in some serious trouble when turning. It's not how fast you get to 0 to 60 but how you get their that counts. I don't want to bore everybody but just the other day i raced a 5.0 and won, he was faster off the line 1st and 2nd but the rest audi was the king. when we got to the stop light he was forced to go behind my car and had an attitude kept burning rubber and getting real close. In another race turning onto the onramp to the freeway the mustang lost his rear end and almost crashing on to the wall, german cars are born in the autobahn, mustangs at triple digit speeds feel like their going to fall apart. Also I have respect for the faster cars 911twin turbos, new corvette, etc.

independent rear suspension... Corvette<br>over head cam... Corvette ZR1 (4 cams)<p>Yes, the corvette is a muscle car, remember.<p>BTW, if you are talking Bang for the Buck, for 20g's, anyone could get a 90-91 Lotus which would run circles around your Ford...<p>
