I recall reading about this before and have searched the archives and couldn't find it... =)
I visited an Audi dealership (to check out the new TT) and when I returned home and tried to lock the doors it wouldn't respond. When I got back in the car it was beeping (not honking) and when I tried to put the key in the ignition it wouldn't go in. (?) weird. [No, I didn't take home the wrong car =) ]
and then all of a sudden it let me put the key in and I started up the car, then turned it off and (while still sitting in the car) tried activating the car's alarm again. this time it worked.
what happend?
thanks
marc

You did read this before. What happened is that one of the tumblers in your iginiton got stuck and your car thinks the key is still in the igniton. You may have noticed that your key didn't slide in as usual when you were having the problems. Your remote locking system won't work with the key in the ignition. Some us used WD40 to losen is up and some didn't but the problem usually took care of itself.
Ted
99.5 1.8QT
My key was sticking in the lock in the first weeks after I got my 99.5 silver quattro 2.8. I sprayed some graphite into it and it works just fine. Anykind of oil will eventually gum up the works.
