Audi A4 is my first german car. I drove Japanese car before. I owned a 99.5 A4 1.8T with Quattro. I've read the archived forum about chipping on tip. However, there're something really confused me.
1) In the archived messages, ppl said that only Garrett did the ECU chip for tip, but I've seen someone using Wett chip. Can anyone explain this to me? Does it mean a tip can use any chip from any company right??
2) I'm interest for a MTM chip, but don't know if it's good for tip or not. Same as above, does the MTM chip is not suitable for a 99.5 A4 tip??
3) Does anyone chip their 99.5 A4 tip yet?? It seems that only pre-99.5 ppl chipped it, but not 99.5 ppl.
4) How about the Garrett tip chip?? Is it compatible for 99.5 also??? Can I use it in my 99.5 1.8TQ tip??
5) For the wett chip or other socket chip, is it hard to remove the parts and see your ECU box and remove your chip???
John

1. I believe that Garrett is still the only one with a TIP chip. This is a transmission chip, and changes the shift points (I think) and reduces the delay when shifting manually (with the tip). Does not increase engine performance, Garrett has another chip for that.
2. You can use any engine chip for your car, I'm leaning strongly towards MTM myself. Don P has done a survey of chip owners, check out his site, there's a link on the links page.
3. ?
4. Check with Garrett, should be.
5. No, very easy (I've sen it done), whole process takes about 5-10 minutes.
Regards,
Rodney
'99 A4 1.8tqms
