Our 98.5 2.8QSTip has the following things that I would like the dealer to look at during its first service:
1. Squeeking rear right brake.
2. Drivers seat rocks slightly back and forth.
3. Remote range.
4. Chattering or squeeking wiper blades.
5. Wind noise around A-pillars.
6. Clicking noise in the B-pillar by the seat belt loop.
7. The "they're driving me crazy!!!" Tip problems - clunk when it downshifts, jerk when accelerating from around 5mph, pull or strain when rolling downhill or coasting.
8. Climate control has a mind of its own. It changes fan speed even in manual mode.
9. Changing the VAG remote coding.
Which of these can I expect the dealer to do something about. What have your specific experiences been?
I am going to take it to YBH in Philly. How are they? Are there any better service departments in this area?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
#1, 2, and 6 are definitely problems that should be covered under warranty
#3 is covered by a TSB, so they should fix it for free based on your complaint (assuming your 98.5 doesn't already have the fix)
#4, 5 and 7 are things I've heard about on the forum but never experienced, so I'm not sure
#8 is well-known and basically just how they designed the damn thing! I think we're all S.O.L.
#9 is optional at extra cost (my dealer wanted to charge an hour for it!), but some dealers will do it for free (or nearly free) just to learn how it's done. Don't let them tell ya it voids the warranty...
Good luck!

I have had experience with several of these maladies. Dealer replaced wiper blade to remedy chattering and somehow fixed clicking in B-pillar.
They were unable to eliminate brake squeal (although there has been a TSB on this since; still is epidemic). Don't think there's anything to do about the wind noise either. If there is, I'd like to know.
Can't speak to the rest. Hope this helps. Good luck.
richard b.
96 2.8QM

I'ld say they should be able to fix the first 6 free of charge no problem..just tell them...for #3 they'll have to put in a new antenna part..hopefully they have it in stock...for #7 i don't have a tip(mine is manual so can't help you there)...for #8, i think it's suppose to do that..mine does it too and i just thought that's how it is...maybe someone else can enlighted us on this...for #9 they may charge you or they may not..my dealer didn't but try to be friends with them and they'll probably just do it for free since you are there for routine service too...
Jason
98.5 1.8T pearlescent

I am from NY, but go to school in Philly. I have my car serviced at Don Rosen Imports in Conshohocken. Everyone there seems pretty nice.
Seth

My headlights are the stock United States Headlights that come on a 98.5 A4. They use the H7 and H1 bulbs and are plastic (not glass). I don't have DRLs. I just can't believe how short the life of the one bulb was!
Maybe I'll look for some Euro Spec headlights...
JohnS
John,
I contacted a friend of mine who runs a Porsche owner's club in Tokyo and
asked about Super White because I wanted to know if he hears about short life of these bulbs.
Super White is selling well in Japan and he says he hasn't heard about short life of the bulbs.

I have been using them since December 3 but if they burn out, I may contact PIAA Japan to see how they respond.

I don't think PIAA Japan knows that people on the A4 forum in the U.S. and Canada are talking about Super White this much.
Nozomi
