View Full Version : Oil Leak at 28K miles on a 98 A4 2.8QM Brandon 05-23-1999, 12:48 PM DaveL 05-23-1999, 01:27 PM Andy Hedin 05-23-1999, 03:28 PM brandon 05-23-1999, 05:41 PM Nobody finds this a little odd that I have an oil leak with only 28000 miles. I put 90000 miles on a Jeep without having this problem. I guess I am the only one with this headache.
Reggie 05-23-1999, 06:11 PM Brandon,
I guess you feel like you are the one told they have a rare cancer that only strikes 1 in a million people. No one wants to be that person. If you search the archives then you will be able to see if your symptom is rare or not. Personally I have not seen any other oil leaks reported in the 1.75 years I have been looking. Let's see what the dealer says.
BTW, my 96 Jeep GC Ltd w/85k has had numerious leaks, but my 87 Jeep had only 1 at the end of 150K and still had the orginal clutch.
Reggie
98.5 30vQMS w/ "0" leaks at 8.1K miles Andrew C. 05-23-1999, 06:23 PM Usually more detail is provided, guesses as to probable causes, pleas for advice, questions as to whether similar things had happened to others. The forum needs a little direction as to how you might want them to proceed.
Were you venting? Were you looking for a diagnosis? Were you just providing a datapoint? We're not mindreaders. Help us out and we'll try and help you. britoki (Brian T) 05-23-1999, 07:22 PM I dunno what's your symptoms are or where you're leaking oil. Please provide more info and it'd help us out.
But for the record here's the leaks I've had, you're not alone.
1) Valve Cover
2) Oil Filter (installed incorrectly from my 45k service)
3) Rear Differential Input Shaft
4) Both Rear Differntial Axle shaft
All were covered under warranty, and they put some ultraviolet dye in the oil to trace the leaks.
97 1.8T QS AT , 51k Mi
brandon 05-23-1999, 10:01 PM Brandon 05-23-1999, 10:03 PM imants 05-24-1999, 05:25 AM Not for nothing this crops up now and then in this forum. It is not a prevelant problem. However, I have noted an oily spot at what would be the rear main seal area - or in that vicinity. The service tech inspected and found none.
The point is to have it recorded in the work order even if it is "not found"...as if it does develop into a leak you may have recourse.
Sage advisor,
Imants98.5Qspt-Tip DaveL 05-24-1999, 06:39 AM Sorry, if I sounded curt, but I would agree with Andrew C. All you did was make a statement without any specific question, opinion, detail, etc. We can't read minds.
You mentioned it's a headache. Is it the first time this has happened or has it been fixed before and it keeps reoccuring? Give us more info.
An oil leak is typically not a big deal. And it can happen to anyone's car. The dealer can find the source of the leak and fix it. Probably a simple gasket replacement.

|
