i've got a 99.5 2.8AQ Avant with the audio package, and whenever i listen to a cd with the volume all the way up, the sound drops in and out. it doesn't happen when i listen to the radio or tape. it isn't skipping, the sound just drops for a sec, comes back for a sec, and keeps dropping until i lower the volume. what's going on? thanks for any advice...linga

I may be way off base but it sounds as if your amplifier is simply giving out at such high volumes. I recently installed a CD player in my car. The CD sound is louder and clearer than the radio or tape. In your case, as the volume increases (to that high level), you a putting a tremendous strain on the amplifier. The stock amp. can only handle a specific load and you are most likely going way past its capacity. This is why there is such a huge market for larger amplifiers for your car. The speakers are designed to handle the high volumes, but the smaller amplifiers found in "stock" vehicles can not "push" out a clear sound.

Your overloading the Amp thus producing a clipping sound type of audio, the ALC (That is what I think it is) on the Amp needs to be adjusted. Had the same problem sort of with a CD Changer installed back in december.<br>

i don't know how severe it is but if it's not that bad it could be the automatic volume adjustment. this increasing and decreases the volume depending on the speed you are traveling to overcome road/engine noise. i wondered the same thing on my car until i looked it up in the manual. if it is that you can turn it off. just check the manual
