I still have sufficient pads.
It is an annoying grinding mostly when stopping from lower speeds and occurs mainly between 5 and 0 mph.

Sorry, no help here.

It's a quote... I think from Shakespeare... I think from MacBeth. Geeze, I made the quote and I'm not even sure of the source!
Sorry, I have no idea about your grinding sound.
Drew S.
Let me guess. Sounds like the A/C for a huge building, or a large generator spinning down?
WOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMPPPHHHHHHHHH.
Right?

Every morning rolling down the driveway at the same speed you mention, I get a short little grind sound as I ease on the brakes . Sounds like it comes from the right front. My first inclination is that the ABS is momentarily kicking in, but I'm not sure because I haven't had a chance to engage the ABS yet. Any other ideas? This is the only time that it has ever happened. Yet another thing that I am still trying to determine whether or not it's normal.
Another thing that I am wondering about is a periodic sound coming from the center console when I have the ECC and fan off. Sounds like a faint "crunch" every 2 seconds. I cant hear it with the fan on, and it isn't really noticeable at highway speed.
Kosta
98 1.8TQM 2001 miles

That sounds like it. How does a rotor get warped?

Actually by the rotor heating up and then cooling down. That's why they sell slotted or cross drilled rotors. I won't get into it here.
It happens (warpage). A lot. Especially when you drive hard. Does the steering wheel shimmy under light to medium braking as well? Especially from high speed - like a freeway offramp?
That sound means you need to probably replace the rotor and perhaps the pads too. That should do it. Oh yeah, BOTH front rotors and pads!
Sorry to dissapoint you!
Chris Gröos

It isn't heated and doesn't have a floor drain. While it is warm enough for me to wash the car, I can't have water flowing all over the palace or worse freezing on the floor.
I try to take advantage of pressure washers but sometimes even that doesn't do it and it stays dirty or I break down and take it to an auto wash (I try not to). At least my garage is warm enough to wax in.

I'm in sunny SoCal, but lazy. It's winter, I've got hideous black steel wheels + snow tires on my pearl A4Q30v, I commute to Sierras on weekends - why bother washing it? It'll just get dirty again in a few days!
Flame away...
Long daily highway commute + brilliant black = many, many washes. Still black and shiny, though !
When I do use the brushless car wash in my area, I always specify " wheels & windows " only , so they don't use those hand broom/brushes that they use to scrub everyone's car with. I don't think it's needed for a car that has a good polish/wax job, and I bet that's where a lot of the scratches come from..
D.
