How do you guys like your leatherette now? Is it tearing? is it also under the warranty. . .does it look luxurious or like cheap vinyl. <p>What is it actually made of? the dealer told me<br>synthetic leather.. . .

I believe that it is some type of vinyl. Synthetic leather is just a fancy sales way of saying the same thing. Kind of like pre-owned instead of used. I does not feel like vinyl at all though. I love it!<br>

Actually I like it. It doesn't look like vinyl. It looks like a firm leather. I really like it, but it gets really hot! I'm very active, so I hate sitting on leather when sweating. You stick! But, I haven't had that problem yet. It's only been one week for me, but I like it so far. The look of the onyx makes it all worth it.

I really like the look of mine. Thought it might not look that great with the perforations, but it looks and feels nice. Stiching around the seems adds to the upscale appearance. I had leatherette in my BMW 318i that I owned for six years without any sign of excessive wear. I think it ought to hold up well and should be easy to clean (damp cloth).

I was a bit skeptical about it at first, but I really like it. Very easy to keep clean and it has a nice look and feel. Contrary to the post below, almost every person who has been in my car thinks it's leather (though there is no smell). Maybe my friends aren't very observant, though I really don't think thats the case. It is a very good imitation, in my opinion. My car is only a bit over a year old, so not really long term, but it is holding up very well so far. Good luck!<p>MikeS 98 1.8T qms

I only looked seriously at the Black Leatherette - but I was very unimpressed. A 30K car should have at least optional leather. Please don't take offensive, as this is all personal opinion, but I didn't see one leather color that looked desent. They all looked like cheap vinyl out of a Hynundai or something. If you want real leather, go with Classic Soft Trim leather or a diffrent car. The inability to get leather in the 1.8T is one resaon I choose another car. What a joke.

I almost passed on this car because of the ecru leatherette. I wanted opal cloth. But when I saw it I didn't hate it. Now, after only a couple of weeks, I like it.<p>I smudged some grease on the driver seat (knucklehead) but it cleaned off very easily. It would have been a nasty chore to clean a cloth seat.<p>My friends think it's leather, but I tell them it's not. It is a little slippery when cornering, but that also keeps the drawers from riding up. A coworker in the back seat slid all the way accross and into the door on a long left hand bend coming back from lunch the other day.<p>Rich<br>'99 1.8TAQMS ecru leatherette<br>

On the 2.8 with the leather option is there anything more than the seats that are leather? The reason I ask is that it maybe possible to equip a 1.8T with leather. I think the 2.8 has the packaged optioned near 1,500. Might be able to buy leather seats and install them. Anyone have any thoughts? <p>PS<br>I agree that the only thing this car lacks is the leather option!<br>

I glad somebody brought this up. I ordered the leatherette on my (hopefully soon to be delivered) 1.8TQS. I am a big fan of Audi leather, my 88 5000CSQ has leather and 154k miles on it and looks new, not a scratch or blemish. I have a bit of trepidation about the leatherette, but I wanted the 1.8T, so it was that or the cloth. I have found the cloth does make the drawers ride up and also collect hairs and fuzz. I test drove a cloth and my dark slacks sure picked up alot of stuff off of the cloth, so I opted for the leatherette. Hope it last like the other car.<br>

I wasn't crazy about it at first but I like the looks and most people that see it, think<br>it's leather. It doesn't look cheap and it will probably last longer than traditional<br>leather. I don't think we have to worry about cracks and such and keeping the leather<br>conditioned all the time...IMO.

and I could care less about leather. I had it in my last car and it was o.k. but again I was more concerned about the handling, braking etc. and not all the bells and whistles. This car is very entertaining to drive and that's my main concern when buying cars.

With both legs stuck behind the seat, both feet stuck under the seat, and head lodged into the headliner, how in the world did your passenger break loose? :-)<p>Charles<br>

I think its fine for the car. It fools everyone, I had to argue with someone to convince him it wasn't leather. As to hot and cold, I'm pretty sure most of us wear clothes, so even on the coldest day of the winter I didn't notice it any more than any other car.
