Does anyone have a fix for a squeaking/creaking armrest? When I'm driving, with normal weight on the armrest, I'm getting some creaking with road irregularities. It's the only noise in the cabin when the radio is off... quite annoying.

Rich:
This problem has come up many times in the past. FYI in the future try searching the archives for problems or questions you may have.
As far as the arm rest, there are a couple of things you can try:
Lubricate the lip of the arm rest (the part where the lid of the arm rest closes to the main part of the arm rest) with chapstick, vaseline, or even blistex. If this doesn't work then try ripping up a tissue and sticking in the area where the top part of the arm rest latch catches on the main part of the armrest. This should take care of your problem.
Chris K
98.5 1.8TQTS Tap Stage II

Discovered this problem yesterday (what a great coinkidink) on the way home...the creak is in the latch-spring assembly (no creak as long as the latch is being held up). Boy is it annoying....
Brian H.
98 1.8TQMS (with creak)
Bought a $4.00 bottle of Dry Silicone spray ay my local hardware store...think its Elmers - spray it around the edges where the lid touches the armrest and on the latch inthe front. I respray once every few months-works great!
Eric
98.5 2.8 A4 Q
borbet type E's - (to be installed tonight!)

was to take a little piece of candle wax and rub it in the slot that accepts the latch of the tongue on the arm rest cover. Also rubbed a little on the latch itself. Arm rest is silent now, and no mess from sticky lubricants.

Just took my 98 A4 1.8tqm to the dealer for warrenty work, Their fix for the arm rest is to replace the whole thing under warrenty.

Hey Everyone,
That was happening on my car as well. I noticed it was coming from the latch of the arm rest cover. I told them about the noise at my last service and asked if they could maybe put some tape or something on it. They just ordered me a new cover and replaced it.
I'm happy, because my old arm rest cover was actually creaking as I opened and closed it. But that really wasn't a point for me. Still, it was nice to have it taken care of.

James Wu
A4 Club of Vancouver
1998 Black/Onyx 1.8tqa

A4 Club of Vancouver
