Hey Christine,
You were having the same problem as me (car beeps unless you jiggle the key). I was wondering how things went today when you took it back to be looked at. Did they do anything for you?
Thanks,
Mo-man,
99.5 Silver 2.8 QMS w/ a bad ignition!
Got a Shove-it Chevy Cavlier today for a loaner.
Using the dry lubricant stuff in the ignition didn't work. :(
Dealer has to REPLACE ignition piece - good news it's warrantied, and the part is specific to my VIN - I won't have to change keys at all or door locks. Audi will call up my VIN, make a new ignition lock tumbler insert thingy and ship it to Rector Motors, then I bring the car in to switchout. Bad news- got to deal with the BINGBINGNNNBBIGNNGNGNBIBIBINGGG every time I open the doors, or "overturn " the key past the stop position, and "rip" it out to get the system to recognize the key has been removed.
The sales guy there said he's seen this a few times on the 99's and 99.5's..... hmmm could be turning into a Tech Bulletin/ Recall???
Don't know, but I get my car back today, as is, and have to wait 6 WEEKS for the part to arrive.
Likes: the radio ROCKS (especially inside a quiet dealership hee hee), the seats hug ya nicely and are the really soft supple leather, the chrome & black look inside is very retro looking and comfy, the carpet is a black tiny berber weave, the cupholders are open "loops" out of stainless steel, very nice! The car is black (jetttttt black, shows every finger print very clearly) with an ebony interior (black).
Dislikes: back seat??? (alone, I tried to climb back there, and I'm not the biggest person in the world and I got stuck in a weird folded position, help help...), the front seats do NOT adjust other than fwd/ back, the doors & dash are like textured plastic (don't know the material composition but I thought it looked inexpensive), the car really does resemble the new Bugs...I don't know about the use of the "golf ball" look throughout the car, y'know like our shift knobs- circles with little dimples in them? This "theme" is repeated 25 times inside the car- every "joint" or gauge has that dimpled circle in it.
Hmmm the dealer added a TEN THOUSAND DOLLAR to the sticker price and a little sign that NO ONE is to drive the car until it's sold, the odometer already has 39 miles on it.
Oh, and there is NOT a remote entry folding key like ours, it's a regular key and doesn't have remote (don't like this either).
But a very nice looking car! Don't know how the engine sounds yet, was tempted to start it up right there (I was the only one in the entire place at this point) but thought better of that.....
:)
One last tidbit- there is a calendar inside the car (in the center of the instrument display at the bottom, in red LED characters that illuminate when you put the key in) and it shows today's date. I asked if it was Y2K compliant (ohhh shut up everyone. I'm on the Y2K Project here at a Bank) and they DID NOT KNOW....I'm sure it is, but still....
:)
