I posted this yesterday but couldn't find the post. Anyways, does it have the same engine with a bi-turbo?? How are the engines different?? Is the TT 6 speed the same as the S4 6-speed?? thanks for all the input
Scott

View Full Version : 2.8 same engine as S4 except turbo?? Scott 05-17-1999, 09:17 AM I posted this yesterday but couldn't find the post. Anyways, does it have the same engine with a bi-turbo?? How are the engines different?? Is the TT 6 speed the same as the S4 6-speed?? thanks for all the input
Scott Corey S 05-17-1999, 09:23 AM I believe the V6 in the S4 is the same block as the 2.8 30V, but I believe the stroke is
shorter, making it a 2.7liter displacement. It also runs with lower compression (most
turbocharged engines do). I would expect that the 30V head is pretty much the same,
but the intake and exhaust will be very different due to the turbochargers. This is very
simplified, of course.
About the 6-speed, I don't know if they are exactly the same trannys. Although, I would
expect that they are.
Corey S
97 Wett 1.8tqm S4 on order 05-17-1999, 09:50 AM TT doesn't have a 6-speed! Jon 05-17-1999, 10:23 AM Different engines. Just to begin, the S4 is 2.7 liters. There are different headers, etc. Not the same engines.
Jon Scott 05-17-1999, 10:34 AM
Scott 05-17-1999, 10:34 AM s
Audiboy 05-17-1999, 11:21 AM Wow, with shorter stroke, probably feels more rev happy on the high end. Do you know if the torque is peaking early or later in it's rpm life? Is the redline higher too? Tristan 05-17-1999, 12:14 PM The A4 2.8 has a bore of 3.25, stroke of 3.40, and a compression ratio of 10.3:1. The S4 2.7 has a bore of 3.19, a stroke of 3.40, and a compression ratio of 9.3:1. S4 peak torque is 258 ft-lbs from 1850 to 4400 rpm. I have no idea if the TT225Q and S4 6-speeds are the same. Corey S 05-17-1999, 12:24 PM . Joe Lucchio 05-17-1999, 12:43 PM The easy answer is no. The engine block is completely different from the 2.8. Not only is the bore smaller - but the combustion chambers are different as well, as is the lower compression ratio and forged pistons. The biggest difference is the use of a 4 bolt main bearing and 2 6 bolt main bearings for the center journals and the use of beefier rods. It also has a different engine oiling system which will be incorporated into the new 2.8ls. The exhaust manifolds and intake manifold are also different. So, it a nutshell, no. MichaelB 05-17-1999, 12:44 PM While many of the pieces are different, such as the pistons, headers, intake manifold, etc. I would bet that the actual block they start off with as well as the heads are the same.
