View Full Version : Is there a chip upgrade for a '96? CCS 10-23-1998, 06:43 PM Steve S. 10-23-1998, 08:54 PM The 96 and 97 2.8 12V cars are both out of luck. Some people stated that they knew of someone that was doing chips for the 12V, but I'm not sure who it was....I would not count on it for the following reasons...no current A4s or any other current Audis for that matter are being sold with the 2.8 12V engine. So, there are a finite number of potential clients to sell to. The gain, if any, is very small....maybe 10-12 bhp. Some people have changed to a performance camshaft, but at a cost of about $1200-1500 (and they get a slightly rougher idle)
This is what I did to combat the the slight deficiency:
1) Modified Throttle Body (obtained from TAP @ $295 plus exchange)
2) Remus exhaust (Muffler only @ $300 - used)
3) K&N Panel Air Filter (Pep Boys @ $45)
Then, so I could turn faster with control...I did the following:
1) H&R coilover suspension (1.9" drop) - springs and shocks @ $1595
2) Neuspeed anti-sway bars (27mm front, 22mm rear) @ $400
3) Pirelli P7000SS 225/45/ZR17 tires - don't ask
4) Ronal R-28 17X8.5" wheels - don't ask
And just to make myself happy and to add another 15-20
bhp...I added one of Jason Tellers A4.org stickers to each
side of the car....A DEFINITE NECESSITY.
Hope this helps.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM |
