About a week ago I posted to ask about a clunking noise from somewhere in the transmission when starting from a stop with the transmission completely warmed up. The dealer (St. James Volkswagen in Winnipeg) took the car (99.5 1.8T quattro with tip) and gave me another for a loaner - great service, knowing that I live about 200 km out of town.
They replaced the valve body - I'm still not sure what that is. The car now seems to work fine.
It would be very interesting to hear if anyone else has had the same problem, and whether it has been fixed the same way.
By the way, the dealer contacted Audi and agreed to extend the warranty and maintenance package by 1 year and 20000 km to compensate me for my trouble. I'm really pleased.

It seems I'm having the same problem from a stand still turn on the car and start driving I hear a scratching down below the car I don't know if it is the same problem that you encountered. I haven't taken the car in for that particular noise since I've been in and out so many times for instrument cluster problems that I would like to wait a little while. Do you think this is serious so I can take ASAP or can I wait.
Your opinion will be apreciated.
Thanks
Vic

It sounded almost the same as dropping the clutch in a manual - only in 2 stages, and only when the transmission was thoroughly warmed up.
Good luck with yours, though.

I think I have the same clunking noise. My dealer said it was the brake pads which loose. They resanded / retightened them. After two days the noise is back.
Did you ever find out what a vlave body is?
Anthony
97 1.8T Q no tip
