Brought my car in for 15k service last week. One of my complaints as many of you are aware is the poor distance with the remote for the factory alarm. Sometimes the range would get so bad to a point that I would have to be literally 5 inches away from my car for the remote to work the alarm. Took it to 2 different dealers for this problem. One of them replaced the batteries on my remote and told me the problem was caused by weak batteries. <-- Bull **** as my range still sucked even when my batteries were replaced. The service guy told me "Well that's as good as they're gonna get".
Second place I took my car to for the poor remote range practically laughed at me when I told them about the remote. I even told them that there was some kind of TSB for this problem and he told me that this was only for 97 and older models. He basically told me that the problems were fixed for 98's and older models. WTF was this guy talking about?? He obviously didn't know ****.
So when I brought my car in for 15k service I thought I'd try out another dealer and also told them about the remote probs. The service manager told me that he was very aware of the problem and that he thinks he has a fix for it. From what I understand, they replaced the antenna in the car with a better antenna and guess what.... I swear I can use my remote now from at least 50 - 100 feet away. Isn't life grand? BTW I live in the philly area and the dealer I took my car in for 15k service was Cherry Hill Imports. Excellent service. The guy to speak to is Chuck.
Chris K
98.5 1.8TQTS Tap Stage II
ps sory to say this but service really stinks at Don Rosen Imports and not much better at YBH. That's why I went to NJ to get my car sreviced because I heard Cherry Hill Imports gives excellent service.
that's awesome that they fixed the remote...now the only thing you have to do is give the first 2 guys bad ratings on their service etc when audi of america calls to poll you.....i can't stand it when these guys tell you to give them an excellent review and their service sucks......

My dealership supposedly replaced my antenna. I took in the TSB with me on one visit. They said they ordered the parts, and I was recalled a couple weeks later to let me know the parts arrived. Well, I don't know if it was done wrong or what, but I still have to be about 2 feet away to unlock the car. I generally back into my parking space at work, so I'm usually trying the remote from the front to side of the car.

I went in to complain. They said "Oh, we'll switch your antenna" and range still is sporadic. Sometimes it's 30 feet, other times I need to be right next to the car.
I noticed that the other items I needed done were on the invoice while anything for the remote fix was not. Is it usual practice for this to be listed even if there is no charge?
Regardless of this, it was pretty poor service for other reasons I've already posted here. Maybe I'm getting punished for the 3% over invoice price I negotiated??
Dealer: Diablo Audi in Concord, CA.
