I stick it under the handle, this way it stays up, like when you get full service gas. This way i can wash the windows, do other things.

The cap threads will more than likely have some gas residue on them, and if the threads touch the paint and the gas is reformulated gas then you will more than likely get some nice brown stains on the paint.

Just FYI from my experience with my white A4 (I hung the cap with the threads on the outside of the filler door).

BTW, no car cleaning product known to man would remove the stains, but after a couple of months they mysteriously faded away.
