Anti-CHIPTUNER

I have a friend who develops the computers in car engines. I asked him what it will take for him to modify my chip and he said he'll get the fuel maps and various specs from audi and his company can do it for about 30 bucks. AND THATS FROM SCRATCH!! You got some of these guys charging $400 and $500 and they even use your old chip! Don't get me wrong, l plan on modifying my chip. He did say that chip tuning is a cheap way to get a lot of power, but for best results, the exaust system and air supply should be modified. I will not say what company he works for because it will enfringe their contract, but be aware of what the chip mod companies are doing
For someone in the aftermarket to offer chips, there is much to consider. I have seen personally the varied results achieved by changing different parameters in the ECU. To come up with the best chip, you really need to do R&D, complete with dyno testing. These companies aren't doing this part time. This is their livelihood. Therefore, salaries must be paid, and equipment must be purchased, etc. There are also liabilities to consider. So to compare a chip company to some buddy you have in the industry isn't fair.
Obviously, your buddy isn't doing this legally, as the mere mention of his company will, as you say "enfringe their contract". So...if he is ready to quit his job and start working full-time at developing $30 chips, let us know. However, I don't think he'll be earning enough to keep his company afloat.
Mike

I do know some people who work with computer companies, and they say they could copy my Neuspeed chip for next to nothing. That is believable, and doesn't bothter me much since it only cost me $170 for my chip.
Christian j. Long
