I chipped my car about a week ago.....and the results were amazing! After months of debating which one to get, I finally selected TAP due to a number of reasons including price, performance, reliability, and user recommendation. I dealt with Chris Dunn at Bernhards Audi Performance in PA (my regional distributor). Chris was extremely customer focused and friendly, and made the buying experience a pleasure. I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone!!!!
As for the chip itself, the performance increase is beyond substantial. After installation, you need to drive the car for 14 miles for the car to read the newly reprogrammed software. Once it does, what a difference! The power increase is incredible. Throughout every gear, the car pulls from 2400 rpm on, without stopping! It transformed the car from a "tame lion" into an "aggressive tiger". The best part is, it did not change any other characteristics of the car - same idle speed, basically the same fuel economy, etc. (I actually find myself shifting earlier under normal driving conditions)
As for the true results.....I have already gotten into 2 "road scuffles".....1 with a Saab 900 Turbo and the other with a early to mid 90's 2 door coupe M3. The situation with the Saab was on a 1 lane road. He was riding my ass, and the road then split into 2 lanes. He pulled up along side of me, shot me a look and intended to pull away from me. Intended is the key word. Lets just say that when the road went back to 1 lane (about 1/4 mile later) I was in front once again! (At the next stop light, he gave me a thumbs up)
As for the M3, I was on a local highway and a black M3 (early - mid 90's) was in front of me. I was driving a little aggressively (intentionally egging him on) and he finally bit. He cut across 3 lanes and gunned it, and I followed just behind. Believe it or not, he was unable to pull away from me at all. We accelerated from 70ish up to 115.....bumper to bumper up until 105 where he was able to slightly pulled away from me.
All in all, I have to say I am more then satisfied with the TAP chip, with Chris Dunn at Bernhards, and with the performance results. It was definitely a well spent $437.
