The Boxster guys got together recently at Las Vegas for an event. 76 boxsters
in all. Quite a feat. Hey, you folks want to have a huge get together in Reno
or Vegas next year?...Reno would be cool because we could cruize around Lake
Tahoe together.
Hey Dean, can we all stay at your house???
Steve S.
97 2.8QM
P.S. ChuckH (not the one with the Audi 90)...aka Porsche Pete of the boxster
board also flew in from North Carolina. Several people made this event from
Germany...yes, I said Germany.

I had an observation on the boxster owners. Here is what I am speculating...(I could be wrong)
1) Boxster owners are more likely people who would love to own a 911 or better.....
2) Median age of a Boxster owner (from their pictures) looks to be about 50.
3) Boxster owners have previously owned other Porsches
4) Boxster owners SEEM to have more disposable income (come to Vegas from Germany?)
Christine, no they were not at the track event we were at...our event was in Pahrump...about 52 miles from Vegas...on the way to Death Valley. Alot of the bay area boxster owners drove together, via Tahoe, Carson City, thru Death Valley, and into Vegas. Their event was just a gathering...not a track event like ours. They do get together for track events...several of them have gone to Thunderhill several times. To my knowledge, the Boxster owners have not done a Boxster only track event though (at least on the west coast). Porsche club has alot of track events throughout the US though.
I vote for a big June event in 2000 in Reno...with driving excursions to Tahoe...Carson City...Virginia City ....etc. (remember, we get gambling.....possible a lake cruize...sound tempting??)
Steve S.
97 2.8QM

1/2 the drivers take off from South Shore heading west by Emerald Bay, the other 1/2 head east through NV, crossing somewhere near Incline Village (?) then down the other side back to the start....
Hmmm mid Y2K could be fun, we could everyone on the West Coast/ Southwest together to meet in Lost Wages.
All of us with those lucrative Y2K project or consulting jobs should be (maybe?) done with our work by mid-year, MAYBE we'll be allowed to take vacations again....
:)
Thanks for the scoop on the Box-starz...

Drive around Lake Tahoe for the scenery, not to enjoy your car. You'll be driving behind some rental car at 10 mph under the limit and if you're crazy enough to pass on the double yellow another slug awaits around the next bend. I'll be there in June in my rental car. Better bring my chill-out pills.
Bill Shaffer

On the website I found this picture...almost all the other pictures were with the tops down...
remember they went all the way thru Nevada (HOT)...and I am sure they kept the tops down. The one that I find interesting is the teal colored one...talk about exclusive...I could never opt
for a silver boxster...look how many showed up for this event. In California there are tons of
silver boxsters.
I still like the pic...
Steve S.
97 2.8QM

As a Boxster owner, whose wife drives an S6 wagon, I will comment on the above post.
1. The Boxster is a great car by itself. After test driving several competitors, not an easy feat when you live in rural NY State, I easily decided on the Boxster. The 996 is definitely faster but I'll take the Boxster's feel and looks any day
2. One decade younger
3. It's my first Porsche. My previous sports car was a 1991 300ZX twin turbo.
4. Will be ordering an S4 as my winter car.
Bottom line we obviously enjoy our cars!

You may be required to do yard work...
Driving the lake is beautiful, but slow at times, especially during the summer.
Many fun twisty roads to get there and back though.
If we are serious, I may be able to do something on group rate rooms at Harrah's either in Reno, or at Tahoe.
Fall would be best since things are slowest.
Then again Quattro's during the winter would be good for snow lovers...
Hmmm.
