Finally got the Phatbox mounted securely in the allroad (no more sloshing around in the cargo area!)
It was pretty straightforward, and the result is fantastic! Luckily, the Phatbox fits right where the CD changer is supposed to go...provided you cut out the little back panel on the steel mounting bracket (see pic below). The only snag was that the satellite receiver box (I'm guessing that's what that little thing is) was mounted to the back of that little back panel. So I took that receiver box, bent its screw-mounting tabs down, flipped it on its top, and mounted it at the bottom of the steel mounting box.
The pic below shows a back view of the steel mounting box after the modification. You can see, on one side of the box, where I had to cut to remove the back panel (red arrows), where the satellite box got mounted (drilled and bolted at green arrow) and where the phatbox got mounted (drilled and screwed at blue arrow).
I just mounted the Phatbox so its front surface (not counting the DMS) was flush with the steel mounting box front face. The DMS sticks out a little, but doesn't hit the allroad's interior cover panel, and the plug in the back of the Phatbox sticks out a little, but doesn't hit the allroad's inside rear fender. Here's a pic of the entire thing mounted in the car:
The cover fits perfectly, and it's extremely easy to remove/install the DMS! I love it!
