Default Das Beast, 3.0T Conversion Update. Dawn of Darkness Draws Near; Something Wicked This Way Comes...

I'm trying to get out to NJ from San Diego to pick up Der 3.0T Beast next week, possibly this weekend, at long, long last!

Mark expects 900HP at the crank on race fuel, yes. I'm a little concerned about making that much power, but he's done everything with an eye toward bulletproof reliability, and overall the entire thing is very stout so, short of utter abuse, it should hold up just fine.

<b>To recap the list of mechanical mods performed by ASP:</b>

- 2.7T block, very slightly bored
- 2.8 heads, port matched to RS4 intake, polished
- 3-Angle Valve Seats (using 2.7T valves)
- Exhaust/Intake Valve springs w/ titanium seat retainers
- RS4 T-body, boot, manifold, fuel rail
- 3.0L OE forged crank
- Garrett GT28RS Turbos + fans, controllers, PS/Oil Cooler
- Black FMIC
- OEM aluminum flywheel and crank pulley
- 600lb ASP Stage 5 perf clutch kit
- Forged pistons/rods (1300hp capacity)
- New rod/crank bearings
- Full T-belt rebuild kit (Yes everything, RMcQ ;-)
- Snub Mount,
- Billet Aluminum Motor Mounts &amp; Transmission mounts.
- TruDual225 SS exhaust, dual 2.25"

<b>Transmission related:</b>

- Cryo treated gears and REM finish coating (low friction)
- 40/60 torsen split F/R
- Rear LSD

<b>Other:</b>

- RS6 Steering rack (shorter gearing, no assist boost)
- H-sport sway bars
- 6 pot Stoptech Calipers in front,
- S4 rear calipers with Stoptech slotted rotors
- A4/S4 Front/Rear sway bar drop links.
- Zeitronix Wideband Data Logger
- 30mm spacers for OEM B7 RS4 wheels (need to replace the OE RS4 tires that are on them right now w/larger 275/35 PS2s
- 20mm wider fender flares

I'll be running it on 91 octane out here in San Diego, so I'll probably see somewhere close to 600hp at the wheels. I'll dyno it at some point I'm sure.

<b>Once I get it back here, it's still got a whole slew of upgrades to receive, most of which is waiting in my garage:</b>

- Euro recaros
- alcantara headliner,
- RNSE NAV+ (BT, ipod, Sirius, etc),
- 4 head Laser Interceptor,
- Cheatah/V1 GPS/radar mirror (gotta cover the bases with that motor),
- RS6 style pedals,
- carbon interior trim,
- black roof rails

<b>...and some other parts I'm still trying to locate: (any suggestions appreciated)</b>

- black window trim surround,
- black RS6 exhaust tips,
- black lower tailgate trim,
- older style 'carbon' rear fog/plate surround, etc).
- black trim surround euro allroad grille (which I'll fill with an RS6 style mesh)
- undetermined brand speakers, amp and sub (What's best in this car?)
- steering wheel upgrade? (Is anything available with the stereo control buttons other than the stock unit? I like the 3 spoke, and I'd like alcantara or 'sport' leather (with the holes punched). I may have the stock wheel recovered, but prefer a 3 spoke wheel. Any suggestions?
- Wheels: I'm contemplating a set of the rear wheels from the R8 - 10x19, but I haven't been able to confirm that they are 5x112, and what the offset is (ultimately I need a zero offset)

I'll post more about it once I've picked it up, for sure. About all I can say at the moment is "Can you imagine?"

:-)

I think your parts alone are worth more than my car . . . very interesting.

If you don't mind me asking...What did 900hp AR cost you?

Default Well...

I bought the car with 33k on it for $23k last December, and with all the interior, electrical, exterior and mechanical mods, the whole thing is still going to be well under $100/hp.

Basically, less than a new Range Rover S/C, and far less than a Cayenne turbo...

While it's 'not fair' to compare the cost of new and warranteed to this, the allroad is mechanically new and the cosmetics will also be nearly new, and all of it done specifically to my design.

The bottom line - it's a lot of money to spend on a car, and a huge loss if I were to sell it, but I am getting far more of 'what I want' for my money than any other car can offer (from the factory) for the price.

Default So on the tranny, did you just freshen with new gears/syncros?....

...or did you have anything else done to take the power?
