2005 DVD NAV

2005 DVD NAV
I just saw (and drove) a 2005 allroad with the DVD navigation unit. I believe this is the same unit that is in the S4 cab and upcoming B7 cars. It had the dual SD slots behind the LCD display. The dealer tells me they only started showing up like this about 2 weeks ago.
Does anybody have information about hooking one of these up to an ipod? I might ditch the Touareg and come back to the allroad if it can be done. I used to have an '02 with the blitzsafe adapter.

Re: 2005 DVD NAV
Quite possibly. I had it hooked up in my '02 allroad, and I have a factory AUX port on the Touareg.
I'm leaning towards going back to the allroad for reasons that I'm sure this forum understands. I just don't want to go backwards on the ipod hookup.
I know the new headunits have SD cards and can play MP3 files. But I'd rather stick with the iPod since it holds so much more data, and the headunit won't play iTunes stuff.

if the new nav unit supports an external CDC -->
in theory, any head unit that supports an external cd changer can support an ipod(or any aux audio device for that matter). I would assume that if the 05's still come pre-wired for the trunk CDC you can hook up a blitzsafe adapter to it.

We have to start talking about retrofit of DVD Nav+ into older cars.
Should be possible now, right? Its not like they changed the dash in 2005 allroads, did they?
How about some pics of the new system terps4.
Also - I got my MBA at The Smith School of Business so I'm a Terp too. Currently live in Edgewater (outside Annapolis.)

Search the allroad, A6 and audio forum...this topic comes up once a week.
Search under "DVD", "NAV" and/or "RNS".
The short answer to your question is - no.
Stick with the T-rag until we learn more about these units.
Good luck!

Teddy - I'm sure you know the answer to this:
Is retrofit of new DVD MMI NAV from current C5 cars (allroad only at this point?) going to be feasible into earlier year C5 cars like a 2001 allroad?

not yet....no one can get the map disks to work. Weird.
There is a guy in Chicago that has hooked one up to his A6 (not sure of the model year).
There are still a lot of "unknowns" on this topic....like steering wheel controls etc.
Here's his post:
I brought in my new RNS Nav unit to a local stero installer sho had
it up in and running on 2003 A6 in 10 minutes. I pluged my PIN code
and was immediately navigating thru Berlin Germany. The problem was
my car (and me)were in Northern Illinois. After fumbling thru the
many Germany screens, I switched to english and performed the
setup. Now the down side...I switch to my USA MMI DVD and the unit
wouldn't accept the disk. Second the FM radio frequencies were
different and I could only tune in one local station and no AM
stations. Third, my dash display didn't display any information.
Forth, the buttons on the Nav unit aren't illuminated. The
installer and I were frustrated so I called my local Audi dealer to
set an appointment to debug on Monday morning.
