You know, even though I'm a lowly "car man", I have feelings too. We get this Lexus Hybrid in and I'm really excited about promoting it... afterall, a white with beige leather Lexus RX400H doesn't come along very often. In fact, based on the number of Hybrid Lexus SUV's listed on Autotrader, virtually none ever come in. So, even though this is a sensational SUV that everyone is clamoring for, it still isn't nice to hurt my feelings. That no good ....son of a .... Mr. Barry, our esteemed dealer principal, calls in from the golf course where he has obviously spent quality time at the 19th hole... "What's happening Schwartz, what's come in?" "Mr. Barry, we got a Lexus Hybrid... pretty neat, huh?" "Yeah Schwartz, why do I need to even pay you? A 400h Lexus is almost $50K new and you can't get them. My dog , Theo could sell that car." "Mr. Barry, plese don't say that." "Hey Schwartz, get over it... my Theo could write the copy." OK Mr. Barry.. you got it. This is the Lexus RX400H according to Theo, the mangy mutt that Mr. Barry loves. It is white with beige leather... it has a wood steering wheel... it has factory navigation.... it has this paper on the window that someone told me is called the window sticker. It says $50,000. The car is nice... it is very nice... no dog has had any accidents in the Lexus Hybrid. It says 28,000 miles on this round thing behind the steering wheel. My owner put the sign in the window. It says $38,995 firm. My owner is a nice man. This is a nice car. This is a nice sign in the nice car. I am getting a real lesson in geography with this Q-7... and now I know why we are referred to as the "Ugly Americans." Read on... It seeems that Q-7's are selling in China, Russia and Europe for like a million dollars. And now they are selling in Canada for like a half million dollars. So when we get a bargain... like this "07 Audi Q-7 at $38,995, it stimulates a load of phone calls and brings out the true behavior of people. You would think that the price alone would clinch the deal.... BUT NOOOO! Apparently to some buyers the price still aint good enough. So now I know where every city is in China , Russsia, Croatia, Canada and the Big Apple. I get a phone call from Alexi... he will ship White Q-7 to Moscow if "I can buy for $36,000. "Nyet," I say and he hangs up... albeit abruptly. The Ling Chu calls and says, "Please, just take $37,750 and I will ship to uncle in Shanghai." When I turn him down, he says, "Sorry to have taken your time." Now this takes the cake... Tim Smyth from the brokerage firm of .....(I can't say, 'cause I'll get suspended) calls and tells me I should take $36,500 before he pulls his offer "off the Table." When I turn him down, I get an economics lecture, why I have to take $36,500.... Well I didn't go to Brooklyn College Night School for nothing. Mr. Smyth, I don't care about the declining GNP. I'm not interested in negative signals of consumer confidence... I don't care about Ginny Mae or Frankie Mae... Just leave me alone and yes I know my IRA is down, but I know that a White '07 Q-7 Premium with 7 passenger seating, Pano Roof, 4 Zone air conditioning in White with Black Leather and only 7,000 miles is a steal at $38,995. That price is with the balance of the factory warranty. So while my Euro and Asian friends are very nice, they are a tad "cheap." I love my Canadian friends....
