Transmission update-
I picked my car up from European Transmissions after having them install one of their rebuilt transmissions. WOW! Best $3600 I ever spent. No more hunting, thumping, lugging, whining, jerking, limping, etc. Herbert (the owner) told me that the torque converter was shot and was causing problems with the various clutches. In his opinion, Audi's lifetime fluid policy had nothing to do with the failure. He thinks zf is just using less than top quality compnoents. He rebuilds the units with upgraded components and programs the shift parameters to generate a much more European feel. My car has never felt so good and been so responsive. After driving my wife's Range Rover and my Alfa spider, it's amazing how good the A8 performs. Thanks to Bill for doing the preliminary interview. I'm a very happy A8 owner!! I'll keep you posted on any developments that may come up in the future.

$3600...ouch, that's about 1/2 the value of my car!
But I guess if I could get the tranny fixed, it would be running pretty much flawlessly. I wonder if he'd give our group a discount.

Paul- it's worth it
My car is in awesome condition with all the goodies. Maybe I could get $17500 for it. My son just bought a new Toyota Scion for about $20,000. Let me see...best of breed German luxury sedan or plastic Jap pos for $3000 more- you decide.
