A8 + Road Trip = Ticket! Radar?
Anybody happen to know the levels of fines for a speeding ticket in California or where I can find the info?
We were driving down to Santa Barbara and my wife decides to go 86 in a 65 and gets snagged! This is pretty easy to do in an A8 after driving for 5 hours, but also sucks!!!
I am going to pick up a radar detector for the way home. Any suggestions on which is the best for the price?
thanks.

Re: That sucks... I got nailed too on Friday

I was in New York on the way down to Poughkeepsie for a wedding when I was nailed for 87 in a 65 on Rte 87 by Coxsackie. NYS Trooper in a camaro was hiding on the right side and lasered me at 87. I do not think that this was a correct reading, but I was in a hurry to get to the wedding and I just pled guilty to get out of there. I ended up paying 385 for speeding and other surcharges. Oh... here's the picture of my car with my new wheels. I just found out how to post them on this forum...pretty stupid that I've been pounding my head over this : - )

$385 for a ticket? Holy crap!!!
For $385 I would expect I could be doing 95 in a combination construction and school zone with handicapped children crossing the road in front of me while workers are busily paving the new handicapped spots (in which I parked by mistake after being pulled over).
Reminds me of tickets for westerners on the transit roads through East Germany going to West Berlin. The cop would look you and your car over and decide how much he could get out of you. Of course being in East Germany it basically was a function of whether or not you wanted to stay as a "guest" of the East German government and how greedy the bastard was.

fine people according to income ? i seem to remember a story where some multimiliionaire got snagged in his Ferrari doing like 120 and he got fined like $50,000. I'll have to try and dig that nugget up...

Re: Yeah I know
I would have been actually arrested for reckless endangerment if I hadn't pleaded it down to a speeding ticket and paid it. The judge was telling me that he was being lenient! I was 4.5 hrs away from home and the judge basically gave me the lowdown that if I contested the ticket, he would go all the way to trial with the maximum fines. I just wanted to get out of that town before I was carted to central booking until monday.
