A8 Transmission - $2550 Installed
I investigated this last fall before my transmission actually went out. The car is getting worse and I had to make the call again.
I was quoted $2550 for a rebuilt ZF unit installed. Accurate is based out of Mundelein, IL and they referred me to the closest dealer in Chicago which is in Crystal Lake. The labor cost are included but they figure it is a 5.5 hour job at $65 an hour. It also includes a 2 Year/24k mile warranty.
My second option was ordering a unit from Pheonix at $1995 but I would have to deal with the core exchange for $1000, shipping at $250 each way, and coordinating with my mechanic. The third option with less stress would have been Autosports Unlimited but they would not budge of $3995 for a rebuilt unit.
Well, now I am not as angry at my Audi. Paying $2,xxx for a transmission is average. I was real upset about the possibility of spending $4,xxx. So, let's hope I get another 102k out of this rebuilt unit. Maybe I will get more with changing the fluid every other year.
Paul requested the information from the Crystal Lake shop: It's
Authorized Transmission

Ask for Jason
Tell him you want the "Audi World Rate" of $2550 Installed. Includes Rubuilt Transmission, torque converter, new filter, and fluid.

http://accuratetrans.com/</a

Is this a ZF authorized dealer? Accurate
Funny thing Accurate is in Mundeline and ZF is neighboring Vernon Hills. I am confident the same people rebuilding the ZF units at Accurate have worked for ZF directly once upon a time.
Some of these places are "ZF distributors" but they still rebuild in their own shop. What I like about this unit, it come from a corporate facility that rebuilds units. I did not want to go with a "transmission shop who knows how to rebuild ZF units." A 12/12 warranty would leave we weary but its 24/24 and transferrable to the next owner if I sell the car in six months or a year.
