Default Welcome to the forum!

That tranny looks a bit different from ours. I don't know what ring gear they refer to. That problem called a "hard part failure". Our tranny don't have hard part problems just seals and O-rings failure

Default Dat's what I thought too. This sounded different than ours...

Although it's probably another piece of evidence of the general quality of the ZF5.

Default Re: Welcome to the forum!

Based on what I have read, the "ring gear" is the large containing cylinder, that has toothed gear on the inside that contains the planetary gears.

The ring gear does not move, the other gears travel on it (that is, the ring gear is the outside tooth, the "sun" gear is the inside tooth, with the other gears riding in between sun and ring).

It is the red gear found here:

Default Yes, I know but I've never seen one failed. the sun/planetary/ring gear set is extremely strong

in the 5HP24.
