Default Here's a few Pictures

Got the car yesterday.....it is in really, really nice condition, basically pristine. The bumpers were just painted this week after the car was sold to somebody else, the deal feel through because it was for some guy's son who learned he was going over seas to culinary school the day of delivery, and I got it. It was perfectly detailed like this when I first drove it. Bought it a few minutes after I saw it.

It drives like it is brand new, super tight and the suspension is nice, not too soft. Gabor drove it and was jealous!

If I could change anything, I would either make 5th gear be taller or have a 6th gear that matched my A8 final drive.....it's weird how high it revs on the highway.....not use to that.

The transmission is silky smooth and the program for the transmission is genius!

01, 63K miles.

Beautiful example, but I thought you wanted the Alcantara interior? Did you get a good deal?

I saw another car exact to this one that was ming blue, and when I saw the leather seats, I really liked them. It does have the door inserts. It is so cherry....

Did I get a good deal? I did not get a great deal by any means.....but if a great deal is $17K for a car at an auction, it's not going to be like this one. It has been maintained by the audi exchange it's whole life, has new front rotors and pads, had MAF changed, waterpump (read: thermostate), brake fluid, etc. They changed the wheels out multiple times also....don't ask me why.

I paid on the high end of the scale for an 01, but over four years of ownership, I figure it's abut $500 a year.....so I paid $24K for a car that looks and drives like new.

Default Looks GREAT! We'll have to trade secrets on how to keep these black beauties clean ;-)

So what are you thinking as to upgrades?
- RNS-D/E w/bluetooth and IPOD dock?
- '03 Multifunction steering wheel?
- Radar detection/Laser Jammer?
- Bi-Xenon HIDs?
- Exhaust (X pipe and dual exhaust)?
- Winter wheels and tires?
- What have I missed?

Default Pretty Close

RNS-D, have a guy who took one out of his S8 recently, would get that, the TMC and the TV tuner. I have a wiring harness already for two video inputs into the TV tuner, would use that for XM and iPod inputs. Keep the six disc CD changer in the trunk.

I was thinking the steering wheel, I will have to find one....that I would like. The three spoke steering wheel is very nice though.

Bi xenons for sure.

Tint the windows

Next summer get some new wheel/summer tires.

No exhaust for me, BTDT.

Bluetooth phone option, I'm thinking of just getting the motorola one with the button (no caller ID, etc) so that I can hide it.

That's my list for right now. How long will this take to get? I'm thinking next summer everything might be done. Hopefully will have the Nav Plus and bluetooth installed ASAP.

Default You got a fantastic deal. Except someone's been hauling livestock in that car.

Didn't you notice the hay in the passenger footwell? Caveat emptor!

I'd take one big step back and remember why we inhabit these cars and this forum: the D2s are among the very best cars in the world, and they are far and away the best deal among the best cars in the world.

For Accord money, you just got a beautiful 360 hp, AWD, well-integrated, maximum comfort / crashworthy / stylin' Audi. Smart. And the difference between that car and the $20K S8 is a bunch of wheel rash, dinged doors, busted switchwork, and bad maintenance. That $4K was brilliantly spent, I reckon.

Default I was thinking last night....

1. There is not another car I would rather drive than a D2 S8 with exception of a D3 S8. I only have one car for myself.....and I just can't think of anything else.

2. Bang for the buck, is there another car out there that is a better bang for the buck? Not that I know of.

Was at a party last night where a guy just leased a brand new MDX, 36 months, he pays $700/month with nothing down and has nothing at the end of three years. He said he could of bought it for $100 extra per month for 48 months with nothing down.....I find that hard to believe.

I'm not a leaser, I'm a buyer.

Default Loving life with the S8

Congrats Paul, you have been waiting a long time for this moment, so enjoy it. Your spot on about the gearing in the S-8 1,000 higher then the A8 which still makes the A8 a winner in the long distance high speed run. The S8 is a sprinter, Lord what would it be like with the 6 speed manual??? Best of both worlds I would suggest. The M5 and the A8 have same top end RPM . Some day I'am going to give some more thought to a 6 speed manual conversion. I kept most of my cars for at least 20 yrs, and the S8 fits the bill well all she needs is more gear. Best of the Best with your S8, you will love it. John
