The 'legendary' 4.2L engine found on the B7 RS4 was disastrous. The direct injected versions of that motor were seriously not well tested and thus had carbon deposits galore. A literal cancer caused a slow death of that engine (by slow, I mean, relatively fast). It was not uncommon to lose several horsepowers per year as a result.
Truly an engine I'd rather just forget altogether. IMHO, of course.
