Default Hesitation after refueling!

Alas! I am not losing my mind, slowly...

It's taken me a year to notice this, but now that I've noticed it, I've noticed it happens 100% of the time. My vehicle only ever uses Shell Premium (91), even since the first fill up since leaving the factory. Yeah, I'm that sort of guy...

Anyway, after I refill the tank, startup the car, when the car is at idle, the car 'shivers'. It's almost like a very slight misfire at idle. It'll keep doing this, until I drive off from the station, and then it never happens again.

What the...? I suspect maybe air's been introduced into the system because I opened the fuel filler cap? But anyway, that makes no sense to me either. No CEL, no codes etc. Any one else's D5 do this? Any ideas as to root cause?

Sorry to hear this. Nope, I haven’t experienced any “shivers” or shakes on idle after fill-up (to date &#128580. I also exclusively use Shell premium (yeah, I’m the same as you), but in my neck of the woods it’s 93 octane. I wonder if your fill station is having a moisture seepage issue with their tanks, but probably unlikely it’s a serious problem considering it resolves once you get underway. Maybe try using a regimen of Audi gas treatments over the next few fill-ups and see if that helps before bringing the car in for dealer service diagnostics—Or just bring it to the dealer and have them do the diagnostic work up which may end with them throwing in a fuel additive anyway...but on Audi’s dime.

No sign of shivers here. I agree with derf about moisture as likely - whether coming in with the new gas or already in the tank and being stirred up by the filling process. Adding something for awhile to suck up any lurking moisture could be the trick.

I'm thinking the same...if you happen to always use the same station to fill up switch to a different station and you know...Redline SI-1.
Air shouldn't be an issue then every car would do it. Actually come to think of it even the fuel would be weird since first start after filling would still be using the previous fuel in the lines for miles....
No codes I assume?
My only guess is some sort of evap issue, but that usually throws codes.

Esophogeal constriction of the tube leading from the mouth to the stomach, making passage into the stomach difficult. Oh, it's your car, not one of my patients. My bad, wrong forum... meh, take two aspirin and don't dare call me in the morning.

Have you tried just removing the gas cap for a period of time then replacing and starting up the engine to see if that action causes the "shiver" you mentioned?

That is a really good idea Jibsy, that will identify if its to do with new fuel or an air issue or similar.

Are you filling up full tank every time? If so try filling up half tank. Maybe something is clogging the breather hose.

I have had this problem but it is inconsistent. I don't fill up at the same place every time and always use premium. Probably happens one in 5 fill ups. Will pay attention to brand when it happens again
