I would not want it to drop into the engine, I'm sure if it drops in there, removing the oil pan would be the only choice to take it out. Not sure if it's flat or hollow of the remainder plug surface. This is also the reason why I do the work myself when I have a chance regardless.

Cheers,

Thanks Louis, I thought about that approach but my fear was gluing the plug to the sidewall of the shaft, which absolutely commit me to removing the entire tube.

Default Fixed!

I am happy to report that my plan came together and I was able to get the broken part of the plug out of the shaft...but it wasn't without a sphincter clinching moment.

You could see that the part broke at an angle, so to get the drill to stay centered, I tried to create a pilot hole with a micro drill bit, but as soon as I placed the weight of the drill on plug, the plug immediately dropped in the shaft. Fortunately, it had only dropped about a half inch...so I changed to the bit I need to insert the screw, made a quick jig to ensure the bit went in centered and then I started drilling with the bit rotating at high speed. This allowed it to penetrate the plug with minimal force, and in fact with some pulling as the grooves in the bit grabbed. I only drilled in about a quarter inch, then I carefully screwed in the machine screw, which fortunately tightened well. Then I carefully pulled on the screw, and voila! Came right out.

I liked AP's key ring solution for this plug, so I did the same for the new plug. As this was all done to allow an oil change, I just finished that. Used 8 quarters of Mobil ESP x2 and a long life filter. Should be good to go for another 10k miles, with a filter change at 5k.

Hi Angry,
I am new to Audi and Audi World. I am trying to get a dipstick for my S8 D5 2022, which, based on the other picture post, looks like the 2021. I, too, want to get the Amazon adjustable dipstick but cannot find the length (setting) I would need. Thank you for any help.

Hi Angry,
I, too, had an issue with the PDF opening in a browser as aeggroup; after downloading and opening with Adobe Reader, I was able to accept the cautions & warnings agreement and read the engine chart. My engine code is CWWB and not on the chart. I have searched the internet, foreign part dealers, and Audi dealers trying to find a dipstick for my 2022 S8 and had no luck. And thank you for all of the helpful posts you have made.

I wouldn't worry too much about the exact engine code. My understanding is the EA839 (V6) has a setting of X, and the 4.0L version has a setting of Y. If yours is the V8, I'd default to any of the other engine codes with the V8
