Default Valentine1 hard wiring question

Hello Everyone,

This is my first post here.
I recently got my brand new 2013 A8L Glacier White w/Nougat Brown Interior. It is also my first Audi as well. I am about to do some hard wiring for my Valentine 1 radar. My first issue is where would I place my Concealed Display at the 2013 model? There is not much room there.

Any ideas?

Thank's in advance.

I mounted mine just to the right of the head light switch, just high enough to see the display.

I also had an issue finding a switched off 12 volt supply.

Did you find a switched 12volt point?

All the fuses on the drivers side are hot all the time.

I have the remote display mounted in my RS6 on the far left side of the speedometer area, it fits but covers the temp gauge a bit. The actual unit is on the right of the mirror in the RS but on the drivers side in the A8 due to the larger console and rain sensor thing....

Thank's for the reply,

I haven't started my instalation yet. Most likely I will have similar issue finding 12V point switch. Can you please give me some heads up on where to find that.

Thank's.

Leonard.

Good luck finding a 12 volt source that works off the ignition...
Both I and my dealer tried with no success when I mounted my Passport. Just about everything in the car is powered all the time.
I finally gave up and just turn the unit on and off with the switch.
After a while, it becomes second nature.

On a recent trip I discovered that the front cigarette lighter seems to be switched which really surprised me.
My phone was charging via a USB adapter and when I scrambled back to unplug it noticed the light on it was out.

Not sure if it was logic in the adapter or the car shuts off that port.
I did leave it in during a fuel stop to verify and the light went out after shutting down.

May want to test it to see if it really is switched.

I think the electronics are such that all fuses are hot all the time but then go to electronic control modules which then determine what will be OFF and what will be On without the car turned on.

The Home Link would be OFF with the car off. I was holding off on removing the front head liner console where it lives until the spring (i.e. after one of you guys does it and posts nice pictures of how so I don't break something LOL).

Here is a shot of where I put my remote display.

Also note the Lap Timer and Boost Gauge. LOL.

The last time I installed a V1 hardwire in a BMW, I just took a volt meter (forgot the technical name) and stripped a few wires in the overhead lights. Most overhead lights will turn off and not have power to them after the doors have been locked and the car "powers" down fully. After that it was fairly easy to tuck the wire and run the remote display. I don't have my A8 yet so I can't test this out.

As for me, I use Escort now, as the V1 lights up constantly in big cities. Its become useless to me.

I pokes around with a meter for a half hour. I'll find a spot some slow day. It's not a big deal. The thing won't drain the car battery if I leave it on.

Anyone find a 12V switched supply yet? I'm looking to hardwire my Escort Passport Max radar. It looks like it's pretty easy to take the interior roof controls off. Just open the sunglass holder and take the bolt off and then slide the panel off. I have the wiring diagrams but I don't know how to tell which wire is switched.

I found a 12v switched supply on the wire to the adaptive headlight switch. Just hunt around with your multimeter.

I was sweating bullets taking my brandnew car apart. Especially anything to do with that beautiful alcantara head liner, but it paid off.
