Scratch repair in aluminum trim?
I have a scratch in one of the stainless steel dash panels that I would like to repair. There are plenty of posts regarding scratches in wood trim, but I didn't have any luck for my application. My scratch is on the passenger side of the car directly above the glove box door. So it is one of the first things my aficionado passengers notice about my otherwise incredible vehicle.
YouTube has many, many videos but they all seem to be related to kitchen appliances and more importantly…they are refinishing the entire item. I am fearful that this method may eliminate the scratch, but the finished panel might not match the other steel panels in my dash since they won’t be touched.
The scratch is just deep enough to feel it with your fingernail (just very slightly). So I am looking for advice and am open for suggestions.

Find the best Xpel paint protection film installer in your area and have him install Xpel Stealth, which is a satin finish. My wife's Q7 had a scratch on the console and my installer covered the panel with the Xpel Stealth. One cannot even tell that it has been covered......and the scratch is not noticeable. My scratch is perpendicular to the brush marks also.

Is there any DIY product/solution? Like most of us, I have plenty of time at home to spare.

To have a professional do the job for you would probably be less than $100. i imagine you could find a similar product online for DIY. Personally, I would not attempt it.

Yeah, I am definitely afraid to attempt it without some specific instruction/guidance. Finding a shop with the current COVID situation is going to be challenging. My hopes were that someone on this forum would respond with a, "oh yeah, I did this and it turned out perfect...and was really easy to do. Let me tell you how...". LOL
Just bored and trying to catch up on all my projects that I have procrastinated on. Now that I have focused on the scratch, I cannot drive my car without noticing it.

Yep, that is the likely solution. The dealer quoted me well over $400 for the part alone. I will see if I can find it cheaper and probably go that route.

Dave,
Try AudiUSAParts.com, they’re the preferred dealer of this forum, they really have good prices, way better, at least, than my dealer. Another option will be a junkyard, chances are probably very slim and nobody knows about the quality of the item, have you also tried EBay?
Good luck !

Yep, that's who I plan on using. Nothing on eBay or salvage yards, but I've only searched via the part number.
