MMI to USB adapter for Samsung Galaxy

Bear in mind that Android phones usually have a USB socket on them. Not a plug. A flash drive has a plug. (Male, not female.)
Android phones are not designed to be USB data sources unless you put them in USB data mode. Which may or may not interfere with how they function as phones at the same time. And then, some of the new ones support the "USB OTG (on the go) standard for smarter connections, most don't. USB "terminal" hardware can be either master or slave, and I suspect that the AMI us set up to specifically expect a dumb data device, so it might not like a phone in any mode.
Just saying, there are a lot of variations, "USB" isn't always created equal.
I haven't tried plugging my phone into the AMI cable, but did get a cheap AMI-to-USB-socket adapter online. I leave a USB flash drive plugged into that. $45 should buy you 128GB if you look around, and that's way more music than a phone carries. Not a bad compromise.
I also tried (just today) plugging in a microUSB hard drive, and the AMI system said "Food don't come in that color" and refused to read it.
I haven't tried a BT connector to the AMI, since that would create another set of conflicts. The phone would certainly stream music...but then, I'd have to give up the BT phone connection with the steering wheel controls and all. Most phones won't support multiple BT connections and switch them on the fly. (I think that's part of the BT 4.0 specs?) They don't make it easy, do they?
FWIW.

Not sure of compatibility issues with the newer systems being able to link up with a samsung, but I had no luck with my D3 S8 AMI. Ended up getting an AMI to 1/8" jack. I know this sucks and am unable to access files through the MMI.
I still want to toy with the video in motion and plumb the output from the Note2 directly into the inputs. I need to spend more time researching this option without going through a laptop etc...
