Mechanical Failure Confirmed

In the case of the 4.0T this may not be true.
The 3.0T style (soft/hard) adjustable mounts are different than the vibration cancelling mounts on the 4.0T for CoD.
I do not believe, or rather have not seen, any documentation to indicate the 4.0T also has the soft/hard switchover like the 3.0T.
As others have said and OP is likely noticing, as long as they are not leaking they still perform regular hydraulic mount duty just without CoD damping and it looks like the system also disabled CoD with the fault present so as to not introduce a vibration it cannot counteract.

You may be right. I just resigned myself to keep the car for another 1-2 years and am disappointed I am facing my first out of warranty repair. I may take it to my local independent shop within the next few months. We just finished a 700 miles road trip and everything seemed fine, but I cannot go on knowing that there is an unresolved problem, lol.

Wow, getting motor mounts replaced is EXPENSIVE. Dealer quoted $5,700. I reliable independent shop wants $3,400 "out the door", so that will be my choice. Will probably get this done before the end of the month (both mounts, of course).
My first car was $500, my second car was $1,100. My buddy is selling his used Acura RL for $3,500. Lol, I never thought I would see the day...

Right now is a very strong seller market, so you may get more money than you think, keeping it for a couple of more years will decrease the value of the car, let's do not even think about the cost of other potential expensive repairs.....just my .02

I know, I know, but what else would I buy? Plus, my wife has the claim to our next vehicle purchase, lol.
I have a few letters/emails from the local Audi Dealership claiming that my car could be worth up to $41,000 (I owe about $16k). There must be some "fine print" and/or catch, but the question still stands...what would I get to replace my S8? If I did trade it in, how much out of pocket would be needed? Probably none with my equity but I do not want to downgrade.

My motoring machine must be in complete alignment with wrapped around my soul and higher self...or else and one (me) will never reach pure enlightenment.
