This thread doesn’t read like PO doesn’t have the budget, it sounds like they found a cheap car and are considering bringing it back up to snuff. I don’t follow the 4L market but I would guess a well maintained 4L with renewed suspension, new tires and brakes would be double the price. If OP can address the issues for less than $10k it might be worth it. My fear here would be that the lean code is for carbon buildup

.
Maybe I read it wrong, but with so many nicer examples available - why else buy this cheap fixer-upper? It's not highly optioned or special in any way, and plenty are available <$20k right now. With all due respect to the OP, but anyone who goes to a dealer for estimates, then needs to ask the community for advice is well advised to not buy an old, poorly maintained D4 that needs a ton of work. More would be spent on this car than simply buying a better example.
.
Trying to resurrect a poorly maintained car with all those problems might not work out to well, anyway. Bad paint, CEL with O2 sensor faults, oil leak of unknown origin... A lot of potentially frustrating, expensive stuff. Just needing all that tires, brakes and suspension work turns me off about the car. Keep shopping.
.
It's very noble to want to keep these cars on the road, but leave that to those who have their work done at wholesale prices
.

Hey All! Update on the A8

i am deciding not to buy it. Too many problems, and I also found out it has not had the recall performed.

I’m honestly surprised the engine hasn’t blown up yet with this many miles and no turbo screen replacement.

also, in regards to the check engine light: it was not on on Thursday or Friday when I looked at the vehicle. It was on on Monday when I picked it up to take it to the shop.

I did find an S4 for around $8000 with 157k miles. I test drove it, and imo it drives better than the A8 lol.
i plan to get it looked over by an independent shop sometime this week

There is no lie in this. Getting value out of it would require smart decisions

I, however, do not think any of the <$20k facelift 4L for sale anywhere would come back with a clean bill of health

RUN away...unless you are into lots of DIY wrenching, spending money, and S&M.......you would be better off buying an old boat.

Stay the heck away from these high mileage outdated Audis
Just lease something new and reasonable and move on.

2015 Feels outdated with the tech. The drive is great...but lacks the high quality screens and media interfaces ....at least I do feel it every time I enter a newer car.

Oh god forbid a car actually drive well and have superior dynamics and interior materials vs a CarPlay screen if a corolla lol!

Just put CarPlay in if it's that precious to you, that's such a weak selling point for a car my 2000 Jeep has it with a better screen than nearly any new car.
