Interesting. Like you I'd be looking for Android auto. Does it just connect to your phone via Bluetooth or do you need to physically plug in your phone?

What I don't see is, will it work if I don't have 2g/3g MMI? Also does the MMI first boot up in the carplay menu or do you access it otherwise through the MMI? Thats a great idea, to such a tech dinosaur.

This could be a HUGE upgrade considering it will give you access to google maps with live traffic for those of us outside Audi connect network. I'll keep an eye, thanks for sharing.

As far as I know and have seen with other vehicles, Waze does not work with Apple Carplay. Apple wants to force you to use their navigation app which doesn't compare at all. You could run it in the background which gives you audio only, but not as useful of course. Hopefully this gets changed.

I wished this worked with 2G MMI units.


Is there a way to update 2G to 3G software wise or is that a huge undertaking?

All US D4's are MMI 3GP.
