Default Hidden Menu on D4 A8L - Interesting Stuff

I got the hidden menu to work on the A8L. It was slightly different from what's been posted for the other Audis. I had to set both Channel 5 and Channel 6 to 1 in order for the Hidden Menu to be unlocked. So in summary, using your VAG-COM, set

Select control module 5F in VAG-COM/VCDS
Select “Adaptation – 10″
Select channel 5
Set the value to 1
Press test
Press save
Select channel 6
Set the value to 1
Press test
Press save
Press “Done, Go Back”
Reset MMI by simultaneously pressing Center ****, upper right soft button, and Tone button.

Start Hidden Menu by simultaneosly pressing Menu and Car for ~3-5 sec.

Here is the Hidden menu screenshots

One interesting item on the Hidden Menu was the WLAN setting. I checked the "wlan running" check box and clicked on "set simple default password". The password was then set by MMI to 0123456789012.

I checked my iPhone and guess what, my 2011 Audi A8L which does not have SIM slots, does have WLAN transmitter. My iPhone was able to negotiate a WLAN connection with the A8.

Unfortunately, I also kept getting this message, so I turned the WLAN off.

Other interesting screens under Hidden Menu. This one was under telephony.

Submenu under telephony.

This one is under usb.

I also did not see the dreaded bootloader option anywhere on the main Hidden Menu. My limited exploration did not seem to have any detrimental effect on any MMI or Nav functions.

This is where you can make a change to allow the MMI to load CD's into the hard Drive. By default it will not allow it.
Go into Main - Diagnose - Settings - Import Multimedia- Set to Copy/Ripping 4/4

You will then be able to import CD's.

I can report that it works as I have done it on a 2011 A8 early production.

Might be worth me getting vag-com :-) I could do with the WLan, even if it's not fast for me.

nice post.

With VCDS you go into

17 - Instruments
Adaptation - 10
(17)-Configuration of driver information system-Stopwatch and Enable this.

You get an additional menu item in the DIS, but I haven't been able to actually select it.

It's early days yet :-)

Thanks, guys. This is great info. So I guess I need to order a vag com. Looks like it is worth having though, about $380? Recommendations? Cool you shared all the screen shots, too. Thanks for all the effort on your part. Appreciate it. I need to fix my cd ripper. One car does it just fine the other doesn't and it is a real PITA to use the sd card to tx - it loses the formatting of the CDs . Let you know how it works.

Yes it's worth it and will pay for itself in short order.
Even if you don't DIY much, like me, most Audi dealerships charge about 1/2 the cost of VCDS for only one hour of diagnostics.

Have a look at the interactive manual here http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/main_screen.html

There are two versions that you should consider:
- USB http://store.ross-tech.com/shop/VCHUC.html
- WiFi http://store.ross-tech.com/shop/VCHN.html

The HEX-NET WiFi version is very nice because you can use your phone or tablet to access it with a web browser.

Don't even give the knockoff versions a second thought.
They use intellectual capital stolen from Ross-Tech and usually end up in frustration and wasted money for the purchaser.

@jakematic I see you've wasted no time in modding this car...
