Heater core pump bad? Save about $70
I just finally fixed my no heat issue and it was indeed the auxillary pump that goes by the heater core that pumps the coolant into it. According to all data it, the part number for it is 079-965-561. However that is actually the V178 pump (coolant circulation pump 2 that goes above the end of the front driver side axle, under the engine/behind it). My luck, I ordered that as per the alldatadiy information. However, the head of the pump is different compared to the actual pump that's by the heater core, otherwise it the same pump. The right Part number is 06D12160. All you have to do is take the 3 screws on the head of the new pump and swap the head of it from the old one pump that is being replaced. The new oring seal can be moved over to the old head of the pump from the new one just to be safe. Worked to my advantage as it saved me about $70 (the pump I ordered on audionlineparts is $109 compared to $181 for the right pump). Not a big save, but with all the different things I've had to do on this car any bit of money saved is a plus lol. Just thought I'd share the information that I learned today working on it with my mechanic, as if it was someone else they would of probably made me order a whole different pump when the heads could just be swapped out in a matter of a minute. Again, it's the same exact pump just a different head to it (at least that's what it looks like from the outside of it). Someone correct me if it was the complete wrong thing to do but I have burning hot heat now just like I did when I first got the car and no problem with it whatsoever.

My heat has become intermittent in my 13 Audi S8. I have tried opening the bleed screw by the core but I only get heat when I am over 2000 RPM. I have no codes in vagcom. Do you think replacing this pump will fix my issues?

That's how mine originally started as well. I only had Luke warm heat when revving the engine. I'm not sure if that's the same problem you're having but you could check if the pump is on and working by putting your hand on it (the small pump by the heater core/bleeding screw area). If it's working you should be able up feel it working/vibrating. Mine was completely dead it wouldn't turn on at all. The heat must be turned on in the car obviously for the pump to go on
