I have a 2016 Audi A8L. 3.0 engine. Wanted to know is it necessary to have a VCDS computer like thing in order to change the Front Brakes???
I have changed front brakes on many cars but never needed a machine or computer to release anything for Front brakes. I understand that you
may need this machine for the rear brakes but is it necessary for the Front brakes too???

A bit of feedback on brake pads. In April, I installed new Akebono ceramic brake pads on all four wheels of our 2013 A8. Yesterday I replaced the summer tire/wheels with the winter variety. I always wash the wheel inner barrels and faces after removal. With about 6K miles on the car since the Akebono pads were installed, the inner barrels had almost NO brake dust at all - F or R. There was a small amount of 'dirt' that washed off from the rainy weather we had from April through July, but that was essentially it. The wheel faces also remained quite clean throughout the summer. The 'feel' and stopping force for the pads is also comparable to the OE pad that I took off, and there has been no noise or squeal from the pads.. The OE pads had made the wheel faces very dirty in a short period of time,
Overall, I'm very pleased with Akebono pads. I have EBC Red Stuff on 3 other cars and like them as well, but they do produce more dust than the Akebono pads.

Hi everyone.
Just to let you know.. it is not good idea to attach charger directly to your battery. This could cause a lot of dammege. Information about that you can find in your manual. There is a sepcial spot on the front of the car for charger.
regards,

I did both front and rear pads a few months ago on our '13 A8.. I wrote up a quite thorough procedure that I used. It's available if interested. Send me an email at: kittyandgary at verizon dot net with A8 brake in the subject and I'll send a return with the procedure attached.

Apologies in advance if this was already addressed and i somehow missed it, but why does one need to connect a battery charger before releasing the parking break via VCDS?

.
If you don't connect a charger and run the battery down during a VCDS operation, the results may be "unpredictable"
.
Just do it or own it
