If you are in the market for a comfortable car that has lots of new tech and are looking at a used Cayenne, why not a 4M 2017+ Q7? Tried and true 3.0T with pretty good MPGs and same car as a Cayenne. It actually has a trunk, seats fold down, can tow with it, etc. Still can find them CPO as well for more peace of mind...

I do love the surge you get with the 4.0. However, the horror story with blown turbos, and my in-town driving patterns give be some pause and I figure save the money with the 3.0. Plus I have an APR stage 1 tune on mine with gives it more juice. I also have a 996 Carrera 4S to satisfy need for speed.
The main consideration is the outdated tech. I'd be buying a 5 year old car with 10 year lot old tech. There is a cost associated with something newer and also a "cost" associated with the compromises in saving money.

I was happy that I waited to 2013 for my A8 as that year they offered the 3.0 V6 SC and there was like a $10K difference Compared to the 4.0 TT. I am just not into driving a big lux car like a sports car.
As for my need for speed and performance, the $10K savings went on a 2014 R8 V10

Ten years ago I decided to get into a new Porsche 997.2 because I feared my then 26 year old 911, which I have owned since new, would not make it to my finish line. So I was doing the configuration for a 997 S, which cost about $12k more than the base 997. At that time, the value of my 911 was about $12k, and I finally came to my senses and went with the base 997 with manual transmission, and kept the 911! The base 997 is perfect, with plenty of usable power, and I plan on keeping it indefinitely.
and I get to keep on motoring along in my wonderful 1985 911 at about 2500 miles per year.

however, I do have a back up plan. My wife has been making noise about replacing her 2014 Cayenne S, and my plan is to drag my feet for a couple of years, and then get her another Cayenne, but I will attempt to spec it to my taste so I could eventually take it over. So that puts me about ten years out from now, when I would expect her to get tired of a replacement Cayenne, and i would have a perfectly acceptable vehicle I can take over. I can probably flex that time frame.
I have no interest in a D5, or D6, or whatever. The electronics doesn’t move me; good internal combustion does. I like the Cayenne—not as much as the S8–but it looks as if Porsche will provide very good ICE drive trains in the Cayenne long enough for my needs, and it is amazing what Porsche does with the chassis.
My 911s aren’t going anywhere; both are unbelievably reliable and fun to drive. My executor can deal with them, eventually.

Good plan. I've always been a cayenne fan. I think at the age of 53 I'm finally starting to mature to the idea of driving a car longer. Going on 7 years in this D4 with 48k miles is the longest I've ever been in a daily driver ever. But I'm always looking
