Cruise Control Coming to Stop
Hi,
New to Audi. 2014 A8L TDI.
Description of me trusting the car to cruise control in traffic for the first time, foot above the brake, anticipating having to override, audi slows down at just about the right distance, vehicle moves out of the way, audi goes forward back to cruising speed. All the while getting above 42mpg and upwards of 56mpg for roughly 7 miles, it made all the corrective speed decisions as traffic move around and in front of me. Wow. I was pretty shocked from almost 10 year old technology.
What was your first time trusting the car not to kill you?
Does anyone know of any nightmares in this regard? Advice?
Be well

My only issue has been when the car in front of me moves into a turn lane. Sometimes the cruise control doesn't realize the vehicle in front of me has moved over and my car applies the brakes rather aggressively.

I will be on the look out for that move. Thanks

I had the issue today with a car moving to a turning lane and car hard braking.
I will just keep to the left to minimize it. Overall I'm very happy with the cruise control and the economy but it is scary each time it stops behind a vehicle.
Showed my 13 year old son today how it works and he was amazed and scared. He was sitting in the front seat for the demonstration. lol

To maximize the economy of the TDI it is a must have. My foot is very poor on fuel economy. And I'm not even going faster per say. It's just that the rpm don't match the level of effort required.
I would say that I would at worst just be zippier with the foot.
Either way I'm seeing greater than 25% economy improvement in some cases where I'm going back and forth.

i was also suprised by this. i also notice that if you are in an "undertaking lane" going faster than the opposite vehicle, the car will slow down as to not undertake the vehicle. i do have a slight issue though, as with VCDS i was able to enable "corner assist". while this works, for me it seldomly works, which is annoying (though i do need to adjust the sensors as they are sometimes out of range and honestly i dont know if this is the issue i have when approaching a corner, as the sensors can identify cars up to around 80m away). the vehicle also slows down if there is a vehicle on a corner, even on very sharp corners. also a plus!

Been playing with the cruise control and I would say the ACC has me beat by almost 50%.
Doing 75 on the freeway I'm getting into the upper 50s. In the city with ACC it's getting in the mid 40s.
One of the things I notice is that while on ACC leaving from a stop, it lightly rolls then it shoots up to 2k rpm moving through 3rd gear before it settles down to maximize economy. I think when I'm driving I'm leaving stops too gingerly and wasting fuel.
