Default Cera Tec, Who Uses It? Why?

I've been told by several knowledgeable Audi service personnel and racers to add LiquiMoly CeraTec to my oil. Are you using it and is it making any difference?

Add Cera Tec to the fresh motor oil to further increase wear protection and reduce friction. CeraTec is our latest high-tech additive formulation that contains two active ingredients for less friction and wear. It has proven itself worldwide and will protect your engine even under extreme operating conditions. The ideal dosage of CeraTec is at around 6-7% of the total motor oil volume.

My vote is no. No additives. Use top tier oil and they’ll have all the additives that are necessary for protection. There is a point of diminishing return when it comes to additives as they can create excess phosphorus and sulphur which poison cats and even create more buildup in the engine. This is why low SAPs oil is being pushed

I just read what Cera Tec actually is. So the ‘active ingredients’ are Boron Nitrate and Molybdenum Disulfide and the idea being that they will bond to metal and create a layer of protection. Sounds like LiquiMoly’s MoS2 which is meant to do the same. The problem with it beyond the sulfur in Molybdenum Disulfide is that the solids fall out of suspension instead of circulating.

Maybe if you had an old junker engine you might see a difference but I still vote no on your nice engine.

Nope.
Nada.
Nay.
RTFM...... the manufacturer does not endorse or recommend use of additives. I have several warnings in my Owners Manual warning against using oil additives.

does this mean liquid moly is a big NO in general? I just had my first oil change since purchase, the mechanic couldn’t sing enough praises about how wonderful liquid moly was and its added benefits with all these additives.

No, LiquiMoly is perhaps (IMO) the best commercial motor oil you can purchase today. LiquiMoly CeraTec is just a polymer-based oil additive that adds more protection (claimed) to moving parts. IMO, stick with LiquiMoly and draw your own conclusions about CeraTec.
