A8 Tdi. Buy or not to buy
Need a new car.. Has had many A8s in the past.. Can get a 2015 A8 for a significant discount off list price.
Based on what is going on, would like to get some feedback on future value or issues with the diesel?
Thanks
Peter

i think it is hard to say right now what the outcome of this will be. VW claims that the 3.0 V6 TDIs do not have the 'defeat device'. i have a Q7 with this engine and have been very happy with it. i think that if you are getting a good deal, it is worth considering.

I'd wait until independant investigators say definitively whether or not it was involved. If it was, prices will take a dip, if not, no difference is likely.

I think you should also consider public perception regarding resale. You get a great deal on the car, let's say, and then you resell it a few years down the road and people are nervous still about buying a VW owned diesel. Not saying that will be the case but worth considering.

Genuine question.
Could somebody explain why the price will drop on resale Audi 3.0 tdi's if the engines have the cheat device, but then they are fixed.
The press look to be making more of it than the case for Vauxhall over here in the UK with some 150+ cars bursting into flames, even on recall dealers can not locate the problem part.

I would definitely wait. VW, Audi and Porsche put a stop sale on all V6 3.0 diesel cars. I almost bought a Diesel Cayenne and switched to a gas model at the last minute.
