A8 D4 4.2 Ticking
Hello, I'm new to this forum and can't find anything on this so far.
It's a 2012 A8 4.2 FSI and it's been making this ticking noise and I can't pin down what it is.
I'm wondering if its timing related? If not timing then maybe it's the intake flapper? If any one could give me any insight it would be greatly appreciated!

That would be a relief if it is, I've heard FSI engines tend to have a different sound but it almost sounds like lifter tick!

Dlong22, that ticking sound is the direct injection system doing its thing. See Car Tech review below that calls it out at the 4:50 mark.
It's kind of an annoying sound but rest easy there is nothing wrong with your engine.
