4.0TT Turbo Failure Thread - S6 S7 RS7 A8 S8

I wouldn't be worried. Many people have the screen removed (intentionally) and leave it that way. Mine was also torn, which probably saved my turbos. That was about a year or so ago and I haven't had any problems since.

I thought so, as the oil should already be filtered by the oil filter, so how dirty can it be? Also at no point the car felt weird or produced weird noises or whatever.
I also thought the screen breaking itself saved the turbos. And if you're telling me people are operating without it completely, then I should be fine.
Thanks Dave.

Just had the turbo strainer recall performed today. Car turns 10 years old next month w/109K miles. Tech said that the turbos were some of the best condition turbos he's seen while doing the recall and that there was zero play in the impeller shaft. Here's to another 100K!

I had the turbo strainer recall work done recently. 2015 S8 with 136k kms, all done in the searing heat in Dubai. Dealer confirmed that the original strainer was fine and so are the turbos. I change engine oil approximately at 5k intervals.

this 1000% why I tell everyone who owns one of these nice cars (audi in general) who wants to keep it long term to change the oil every 5K miles. it is cheap insurance and it is paying off for you, that's for sure!

Mine clocks out of the 10 year extended warranty in Augiust 2024, so it still needs to go in. I am holding out just in case turbos blow, though no sign of it. I do 5K oil cycles typically and use 504 spec oil rather than the more common older US sped 502 stuff.
As an aside, I think there is no 4.0T forum because al the rest of those forums are really from a bygone era of AW. Back when original founders were the key crew who maintained site. The AW changes were happening by the mid 4.2 (D3) era, and probably why you see that but then no 4.0T.

Quadrate with other antiquated features of the forum, e.g. no sticky threads, etc. God forbid they should update it a little. They did however take the time to add the etron forum, long after the introduction of the 4.0TT...
