Good for you, I have always been a little suspicious of some dealerships. There sure are plenty of YouTube videos vehicle repair scams

I believe that is also the reason why the TSB has a VIN split for the 2017, meaning only some 2017's are supposedly affected. If you live in a CARB state, the turbos are covered by Audi through 7yr/70k as part of the emissions warranty and according to my dealer there is also an extended 10yr/100k warranty on the PCV.
I'm getting the same sporadic responses as well from many techs, dealers, and enthusiasts. Spoke with a local shop, Achtuning, and they seemed to think along the lines of what you'd stated, that some time in 2017 they utilized the revised parts but others are skeptical. A buddy of mine at the office picked up a 2016 S7 with 40k miles on it. Drove it spiritedly for around 15k miles where it had to be trailered to Achtuning to get the screens updated, along with the two failed turbos, among other items prior to his stage 1 flash. His 3rd party warranty ended up covering most of the repair and this is where Achtuning told him some of the 2017's and the 18's shouldn't see the problem. But a design flaw is a design flaw so I'll have to watch it regardless. Thanks for the response!

Stock 2015 with 52,000 miles. Sheared hot side shaft on right side turbo. Left side has a ton of shaft play. The car left me sitting in the middle of the road.

Default 2013 Audi A8 4.0 T Sport

Car stalled and shut off when exiting I75 interstate and wouldn't re-start. Had the car towed to the dealership to have a diagnostic done to determine the issue. Once the diagnostic was completed, I was informed that both turbos were bad. this makes absolutely no sense being that the car is rarely driven and only has 38,542 miles and prior to stalling, the car was performing fine. Prior to the car stalling, I had driven 3.5 hours from Savannah to Atlanta with no issues until the point where the car shut off. I'm glad the car waited until I exited the interstate and not while traveling down I75 as it was storming and a lot of traffic, this situation could have been fatal had that happened. Called and talked with someone at Audi USA who advised that I go to www.nhtsa.gov to search my car by vin number, it would pull up all current recalls not performed on your vehicle. There's also a link to file a complaint regarding the issue with your cars performance or a failure of a particular part. This would then launch an investigation into the issue and they'll determine whether or not to demand that the manufacturer correct the issue with a recall. What also helps is if there's a high volume of individuals filing complaints of the same issue and the investigator determine the issue to be a safety hazard, they will definitely force the manufacturers hand to correct the issue with a recall and require them to reimburse everyone that have spend their own money to correct the issue pre recall. It seems that there's more than enough people here having the same issue, I think we all should come together and launch a complaint campaign to try and force their hands to correct this issue as it seems that its a known issue.

'15 S7 38k miles w/ stock turbos, I asked my service advisor about the issue at Audi Naples and they seemed to have no clue what I was talking about even though someone in this forum had recently taken their car in with blown turbos only a few months ago.... I'm currently in the process of getting a quote for parts and labor as discussed many times in this thread and hoping to make enough of a stink for Audi to pinch in for some of the labor cost. I will gladly post my outcome & oil screen when complete. Thanks all for your insight.

Also discussed in this thread, if you live in a CARB state, the turbos are covered up to 7 years, 70k miles (whichever comes first). I don't know offhand if CT is a CARB state, though.

Well, add me to the “club”.

I can attest to the fact that there’s generally no warning, it just happens.

My girl is a 2015 A8, with the dreaded 4.0 TT.

I was driving late Friday night, exiting I290, and the engine started to choke, chug, and stutter.

It did it about 3 times before I got to my destination.

Since it was late, I figured I’d try again Saturday morning, hoping I wasn’t one of the unlucky ones.

When I tried to start her again, Saturday morning, the check engine and EPC light immediately came on, and she wouldn’t start.

Had her towed to the my selling dealership, and lo, and behold, play in turbos, and both need to be replaced.

LOVE her, but NOT happy with her at all right now...

CT is a CARB state. FL should be also.

BOOM! Covered. Is it a requirement that the car was purchased IN a CARB state? I'm not 100% clear on that.
