the 310 or 333 hp version? The 8 is 400(?) lbs heavier than the 6, have to imagine they would need the S4 3.0

Even if it's 310, it should be enough. Any what Audi "says" the hp is might not be reality.

Some folks already think the 310hp on the current A6 is underated as that car is stupid fast.

I'd be digging the SWB car and wonder where the price point is going to be at.

I have the 3.0 740Li with 315 horse and drove side by side with 750. Really no diff in us(unless you drive 90 MPH). Really amazing what tech has done. If A8 goes that way I would look at that next. Some people have a hang up with the badge in the back of the car but if you read the reviews even the experts don't feel much diff.

You really cant replace the thunder and growl of a v8 engine and how it feels.

But on an a8 that had a more isolated and quiet feel as a luxury car, it's not like an s5 where you can feel the rumble of the engine that much.

So I can see how you wouldn't miss the v8 engine that much in everyday driving for the a8.

Car & Driver reported today that the V6 will replace the V8 in Summer 2012 and have 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. For a V8, buyers will have to step to the S8. Considering both the V8 A8 and the V6 S4 (with 7-speed transmission) are rated at 18/28, I'm very curious how much of a difference this will make. Obviously, the A8 will have different gear rations, but still...

They also note that a diesel will be available "later in the year."

Default Here's part of the press release from AoA

It appears the 333-hp 3.0T and the 3.0TDI will be added to the A8 line-up alongside the 4.2 V8, not replacing it (at least that's how I read paragraph #2). ***UPDATE: Confirmed by my dealer, the V8 stays in the A8 line-up***

Here's the release:

Audi A8 3.0T to be Launched in the U.S. Market

Audi of America today introduced the 2013 Audi A8 3.0T at the Detroit North American International Auto Show. Featuring a supercharged V6 engine, the A8 3.0T delivers 333 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque, but with great efficiency.

The A8 3.0T will include standard quattro all-wheel drive. Standard and optional equipment availability will be similar to the Audi A8 4.2, including normal and long wheelbase offerings. Later this model year, Audi of America plans to also introduce the 3.0 liter V6 TDI clean diesel in the A8 model line to provide two six cylinder models with exceptional fuel efficiency in the upper-luxury sedan segment. Start/Stop technology will be standard on both models and the first application of this fuel saving technology in the U.S. market for the Audi brand.

That's a lot of A8 options. 7 different variations if you include the S8.

Keeps them comparably competitive with BMW's 7-Series line-up.
