Wow..this is pulling me back to an Audi
<center><img src="http://carad.ebayimg.com/i2/03/a/000/77/42/7de1_4.JPG"></center><p>05 A8 4.2 - To me this is beautiful. Issues with the 05 model to be aware of?

Early 05 has OnStar (to be discontinued) and no bluetooth.
Build quality / reliability slightly inferior to 06 models.
Trunk hinge problem exists on 05 models.
Auto close on doors was either an option or not even available. I can't recall.
Try and ensure the dealer updates the NAV software to give you the latest maps - 05 coverage was poor
Look for a later model 05
That car looks very clean

geordie nailed it! It is one of the most striking cars on the market IMO.
If you dont have issues with car, which means you can avoid the dealer every week AND Audi, you are home free!!!

The only issue I have had was the trunk motor...
which was replaced under warranty. Make sure it has already been done or get it done before the warranty expires. I would recommend getting one made after November 2004 which is when they phased out the OnStar and replaced it with Bluetooth.
There is an updated Navigation DVD available, see if you can get that as part of the deal. Make they take care of the MMI software updates, TSBs, etc. if you go for it.
I am very happy with mine. 8^D

In addition to other comments, MMI issues also exist but should have
been taken care of through software upgrades. Mine is an early 05 (with OnStar) - mostly just annoying little things - nothing major to worry about.

Allow me to help all you "wanna be D3 owners"
Here's an analogy for ya.
Remember high school? Remember that gorgeous young thing that couldn't count to 10? Every boy within 20 miles was chasing her. You dreamed about her every night? You walked into the water fountains in school on more then once while watching her slither by.
Now, remember the cute little thing who could count . . . . was able to control her giggling. . . had a personality. .and was probably your girlfriend . etc.?
Well, guess which one a D3 is.

The nice thing about the analog OnStar becoming obsolete in a year & ten days on my '04 is that I save $150 (GM family & friends price) by not having that fee. In fact, I cancelled the automatic renewal so my service ends next week. I still have my cell phone & nav system. I don't own a Bluetooth phone (or other device) & neither does the Mrs. so no loss there.

I bought my '04 used without ever test driving one. I only sat in one at a dealer once about two years before buying one.
It has been everything I could have ever wanted. And it has a vin below 700
