Per other replies, voltages do seem low, some way low.

Clear all codes as much as practical and the run full scan. Post up other modules that show battery voltage (only some do) so we can see those even if they show NO errors.

Is it starting and behaving correctly post -new battery? Maybe let it sit a couple days and see if charge is holding.

On parking brake, go to Ross Perch site or find their video on rear parking brake, particularly that pads implausible code. You will have to run through basic settings a few times. As they point out on video and from personal BTDT, the D3 set up is really finicky. They got rid of trying to read pad thickness with the parking brake and went back to typical Audi sensors for D4.

On ECU's, after exhausting possiblilitis, why not take it to dealer for an ECU update/flash attempt? You will pay some $$ for maybe a few hours labor, but might be worthwhile here. Google the code thoroughly if any other experience out there, but meantime note while it says a checksum is bad, it does not say "defective" like your inst. cluster does or like ABS modules do when they (not uncommonly) throw a code. In any searches, twin ECU design is shared by W12 for what it's worth, so don't limit search to just S8. Also be sure to pick up C6 S6 with slightly detuned version of same V10. Those were as or more common than D3 S8 was.

And yes, ECU's are in back of motor in cowl area under the passenger side cover, in there with the alarm and the HVAC valve and helper pump unit. To cut down on coding hacking, Audi fit ECUs with a steel chastity belt assembly. Sometimes they have anti tamper screws. If like my W12, you have to painfully take out a couple of Torx screws on the harder/upper of the two. Probably net easier to pull the wipers, take off the back cowl plastic piece below windshield and then get in there more easily. I am replacing that back cowl piece on W12 during next heater valve pull which also pretty much needs one of the ECU's out, so know that job. Look in there and you will see. As DVS Dave said, you really should check the cowl drains. Pour a water bottle in there toward HVAC unit. If it puddles up (fails to go under car), they are plugged. Even with that, consider simply undoing and refastening the big honkin' ECU main wire loom connectors--in case one of the connection points is slightly corroded/oxidized, or area went swimming with clogged cowl drains or otherwise got wet or dirty.

Those results posted above were after I cleared, drove around, and re-ran them. I'll post the complete scan below.

Yeah, it responded very well to the new battery, my trunk motor was even functioning better.

I already took it to the dealer before I installed the new battery, and they told me I needed to replace the ECUs because they were fried. They told me nothing else could be done.

I will do the water test, and try to unplug them as well.

2007 S8

Ive had to replace an Ecu due to a constant epc light caused by incorrect throttle body readings, internal fault in the ecu. It would throw my car into limp mode thus making it undrivable. Bought 1 used ecu off ebay, had the dealer code it and the problem was fixed. The odd thing with yours is that both banks went out at the same time, unless both water logged I can't see that happening. Be sure to check all wiring going to and from the ecu's, very susceptible to damage and in my case also had to replace wiring on bank 2 drivers side. They are both the same part # with one coded as the master (passenger bank 1) and slave (driver bank 2). So all that is needed is used replacements and have them coded and you should be all set. Although I would first try to diagnose further to determine if one unit is causing the other to fail.

All in all it is a fixable problem so be sure not to become overwhelmed. And do not buy new ecu's from the dealer.

FWIW, still doubting the dealer "diagnosis" FWIW The code doesn't say that on its face. At service level, excepting R8s the average even bigger dealer probably haven't seen one of these in at least 5 years, and not one would be trained on it in recent years. With turn over, essentially "no one" is home, so they are left to be reading help screens and such. Meanwhile, frankly if they missed the battery BTW as obvious to check, that's like Audi D3 grade school for tech training. Did they flag that? If not, return to go and get your $200 back... (won't happen...)

As other reply suggested though, you can also just buy junkyard ones and get those reflashed at dealer. IIRC car wil be disabled when installed (no start), so would need to be towed in. (??--look into that) Plan to source and then get them reflashed within an EBay type return window.

Do look for water and wiring type issues though. ECU's very rarely spontaneously blow up electronically. Causes me to suspect yours maybe went swimming with clogged drains. And again, reseat the wire main connector for each. Just costs some time. Who knows, maybe dealer then eats crow. Also get to bottom of voltage issue. New battery or not, the 11.557V one is subpar on one ECU, the 10.795V one is complete crap to say it bluntly, the supposed 186 rpm/minute readout is laughably ridiculous, and the 9.11V read out on parking brake is also a sign of either definite issues or at least or too long of a VCDS session.

FWIW, how are you running VCDS sessions? I find to avoid low voltage codes coming in pretty quickly, I either need to do a scan pronto and get out and car shut down, or to extend session some I lower MMI screen, turn off HVAC blower completely, and anything else running that's obvious. Certainly no tunes, no vented seats if car has them, etc. In plain English, leave ignition on 30+ minutes and it is likely to start showing voltage stress, especially if you don't turn off everything optional. You do need to be comfortable voltage is in order, because D3's (or most any modern Audi) really do tend to flake electronically with substandard voltage. Do run the parking brake basic settings stuff to conclusion to try to clean that up too.

Yes correct, car will not run without ecu's coded to new vehicle. I limped my in to the dealer, left the ecu unbolted and left post it notes on everything so they knew which one to change.. can't make it too simple for these guys 😂 With your car in running condition should be no need for a tow, hopefully. Keep us updated on the outcome.

Well, you gentleman were probably right. I unplugged both and the connectors and wiring seemed very clean, but there is oxidation on top.

Obvious debris in the cowl drain area. I poured some water in, and it did seem to drain, though not instantly. The part that is hard to understand is I've owned the car for a year and half, only driven a few thousand miles, and garaged it the whole time. I guess it could've happened but I don't remember being in a situation where enough water would've built up.

Is there any reason I shouldn't start looking for some used ECMs now? I spoke with the dealer, and they said they would program used ones for me.

Try some contact cleaner on the connectors, see if that helps.

The low voltage readings elsewhere in the vehicle systems is still a concern though. Clear those out, see if they come back.

Yep, looks like they probably got wet. Just takes some rain over time and clogged drains, and issue sets in. Could have been years in making. Obviously clean the drains. I just did the W12 on passenger side by (barely) fitting a piece of tubing into the inlet and blowing compressed air thru it. And then, follow thru on the contact cleaner suggestion, plus reseating the main wiring looms to them at same time. My W12 ECU's have snap on plastic covers on top of them BTW to keep some of the rain water directly off them. Do yours? The covers are kind of flimsy mounting wise, but do seem functional.

The car alarm is in the same town area (just to left of ECU's as you look in there, below windshield) so may have issues too. If never replaced, its internal battery is likely done 15+ years later anyway. Check your whole scan and see if you have any alarm malfunction issues. Also, be sure it plain works when you lock car. The reason I bring that up is not so much it's directly critical, but indirectly it is a known power drain issue on D3's when the internal battery gets screwed up. If you find codes, can either get a new one via discounted dealer, or take a chance on an EBay or other used. I just put in a used one after finding the code...and having battery/voltage issues.

Yes, at least start searching for ECU's. FWIW, I often just put parts on my watch list and let them season a few days. Probably half the time now if I save several in the zone, I start getting price reduction offers.

Yes, mine had the covers, I just removed them for the photo. I'll work on unclogging those drains, and re-scan tonight to see what shows up.

I found a pair of ecms on eBay for a decent price and ordered them.

I'll update again tonight. Thank you

I cleared the codes, drove for a bit, and the same codes came right back, posted below.

I'm borrowing an air compressor to clean out those drains.

Then it was the same parking brake and sound system codes.

Quick Reply: Would really appreciate some opinions, 07 S8 with "fried" ECM's...
