Default What does the double layer security glass look like?

It is easily identified from the normal glass?

Can someone post up a pic or three?

That's ballistic rated armored glass. The double layer security glass is essentially just double glazing and is only around double the standard glass thickness.

The laminated "security" glass (that's what Audi calls it) has a v-shaped groove along the top edge. It's very thin, like 3-4 mm by my estimate. One reason they switched is to save weight, and it is noticeable thinner than any auto glass I've seen. It is super tough, though. A while back someone posted a video of a guy trying to break a window on an A8 and he could barely get through it with a hammer!

Just like all windshields on all cars. Plus some fine marketing.

Near the manufacturers marks on each pane, there should be the word "acoustic" on the glass if it is the acoustic double glazing.

Mine says "SEKURIT" not acoustic. I have the original dealer window sticker and it says security glass IIRC.

I thought SEKURIT was the model of the glass pane.. In other words laminated, but the double glazed system was known as "Acoustic" glass. It should have the word "Acoustic" on the pane. Maybe there were two types of glass, but as far as I was aware there was standard, acoustic (double laminated) and bullet-proof.

Photo is from my D3 with "Acoustic Glass" as an option.
